Mei got home with Sylus taking her.
As she got off, she looked up at him and said softly giving the helmet to him. "Thank you for bringing me home."
Sylus "remember do not hesitate if something is off...trust your instincts. It should be that easy" as he grabbed the helmet and putting it on him.
Mei's heart fluttered "I will...does this whole situation need to be kept secret?"
Sylus "yes, even your trusted allies could stab you anytime and anywhere...I'll see you tomorrow at gym class sweetie stay safe"
*gym class?...* before Mei could speak Sylus took off leaving Mei in question.
Mei looked around and saw Mephisto on one of the rooftops looking from afar. Mei "I guess you're really going to be here for a while..." A sense of unease lingered, but she pushed it aside as she pulled out her phone and called Ayako.
"Hey, Ayako... could you come over after classes? I'm thinking of having a sleepover," Mei said, trying to keep her voice steady.
"Of course! I'll be there as soon as I'm done," Ayako replied, her voice warm and reassuring.
As night fell, Mei busied herself in her apartment, trying to shake off the lingering thoughts of the previous night. When the doorbell finally rang, she felt a mix of relief and anxiety. She opened the door to find Ayako standing there, her expression a mix of concern and excitement. Without hesitation, Ayako rushed in and hugged Mei tightly.
"Mei! I was so worried about you! You didn't text me last night, and I didn't know if you made it home okay," Ayako said, her voice tinged with worry as she pulled back to look at Mei.
Mei forced a smile, trying to appear calm. "I'm sorry, Ayako. I was just... really tired, and I must have dozed off as soon as I got home."
Ayako frowned, clearly not satisfied with that answer. "Are you sure that's all? You've been acting a bit off. Did something happen?"
Mei's heart raced, but she knew she couldn't tell Ayako the truth—not about Sylus, the chase, or the strange circumstances she found herself in. "Nothing happened, really. I just had a long day and didn't realize how late it was. Let's not worry about that now, okay?"
Ayako studied her for a moment longer, then sighed. "Alright, but you know you can tell me anything, right?"
Mei nodded, guilt gnawing at her as she lied to her best friend. "I know, Ayako. Thanks for being here."
To change the subject, Mei quickly offered, "It's already dinner time. How about I cook us something?"
Ayako's eyes lit up at the mention of food, and she smiled. "That sounds perfect! I'll help you out in the kitchen."
The two friends made their way to the kitchen, where Mei began to prepare a simple but comforting meal. As they worked together, the tension from earlier slowly eased. Ayako chatted about her day, the latest gossip at school, and, inevitably, the buzz about Professor Sylus.
"Professor Sylus was so hot today! He's practically the only thing anyone can talk about!" Ayako said with a laugh as she chopped vegetables.
Mei tried to keep her expression neutral, but her mind raced back to the events of the night before. "Yeah, I heard... he's definitely made quite an impression."
Ayako grinned, oblivious to Mei's inner turmoil. "I mean, can you blame them? He's so mysterious and handsome. I bet he has a ton of secrets."
Mei's hand faltered for a moment as she stirred the pot, Ayako's words hitting closer to the truth than she realized. "Yeah... I bet he does," Mei murmured, her thoughts drifting back to Sylus and the strange new world she found herself entangled in.
