So I'm currently stuck in a car for like two hours going to Girl in Red, but school starts tomorrow so I'm gonna be a zombie on my first day. Pray for me. Also my sister is playing a mix of really great and really shitty music so I just put my earphones in instead. 😔

I refuse to call a teddy a 'stuffed animal' or a 'plushie' as both just sound wrong to me. I also incorporated my love for dinosaurs into this, so if you dont like them, just look past it. I did not proofread this so Enjoy!

I walk downstairs, confusion immediately taking over my expression once I see mom rushing around the house, cleaning and organising every room and obsessing over the smallest things being out of place.

"Mom, what's going on?"

She jumps, spinning around to face me with a hand clutching her chest. "God, Y/n, scared me. I uhm, actually I invited Travis over today. To meet you." She explains cautiously, unsure of what my reaction might be.

"Oh, cool." I reply as I take a seat on the neatly organised couch.

She stares at me in silence for a moment before speaking slowly. "Wait, so you're okay with the fact that I didn't tell you until like a half hour until he got here?"

"Yeah, why wouldn't I be okay with that? It had to happen at some point, right?"

"Oh" She let's out as she makes her way over to sit beside me. "You're right, I just kinda thought you'd want a bit more of a heads up before he got here. You know, I tell you and you get annoyed and go up to your room, then he gets here and we act like nothing happened."

"Just because I did that with your last boyfriend doesn't mean I'm gonna do it with this one. From what I know about him, I like Travis so I have no issue with him coming over."

A knock at the door sounds throughout the house at the same time a timer goes off in the kitchen. Mom gets up and walks briskly to the kitchen, presumably to check on dinner, leaving me to answer the door. I walk over to the door, turning the lock and pulling it open to see Travis standing on the front porch, a bouquet of lilies in one hand and a small gift bag in the other.

The smile falls from his lips as they turn downwards, his eyebrows knitting together in confusion. "Uh, hi." He greets awkwardly, his words sounding close to a question. As I'm about to respond, I hear mom walk up behind me so I step aside to let Travis in.

"Hi Trav." Mom says softly as she snakes her arms around his neck, pulling him down for a kiss. I make an exaggerated gagging noise when his arms wrap around her waist to pull her closer to him, attempting to deepen the kiss. They pull away and turn to me.

"Trav, this is my daughter, Y/n. I told you a bit about her before." She intoduces while gesturing with her hand in my direction. Once again, his expression contorts to one of confusion.

"You said you had a young daughter Tay. I immediately pictured - and prepared for! - a toddler. Or even a baby! The way you talked about her kinda implied she was a small child."

Mom and I burst out laughing at his reaction, we manage to get a few words out. "I know I did that on purpose! I had a dream about it before I told you about her and I decided to follow through with it."

"Oh my god, mom! Thank you for doing that for me, it's totally worth it. I mean the look on his face? Nothings ever gonna beat that."

He visibly relaxes at my mom's admission, asking the question that has remained unanswered for far too long. "Wait so, how old are you then?"
