It's been almost a month since I'd been forced into a fake relationship with Brody, it hasn't been too bad so far and we've even made an effort to get to know each other a bit better. I've been on edge all day ever since mom told me Tree was coming over to discuss the contract again.
Neither of us are sure whether it's good or bad, so we're impatiently waiting on the couch for the sound of her key turning in the door. To be honest I don't know why mom gave her a key seeing as all she does is barge in unannounced.
"Hey, whatever it is, I'm sure it's gonna be okay. There's nothing for her to be upset about, you've not done anything wrong, okay?" Mom says, sensing how nervous I am.
"Yeah. Thanks mom, I just hope she isn't mad about something I didn't do, like maybe I forgot about something that happens to be crucial to the contract?"
"You've read it over and over again, you know everything it says and you haven't missed anything, I promise." She reassures, placing a hand on my shoulder.
Before I could respond, I hear a key turning in the lock and the front door swings open as Tree walks into the house.
"Okay, let's get right to it" She starts, setting her belongings down on the coffee table and taking a seat on the armchair to the side of us "So I have a couple things to tell you, sorta like rules if that's what you wanna call them."
I steal a glance at mom to see her already looking at me. She turns to Tree before speaking. "What are they? And how many are there?"
"Well, I want to start off by saying now is a good time to increase the amount of public outings you do with Brody. That means going for walks, dinner, just meeting up for coffee even. But hate very it is, you have to do it at least three times a week now, and it has to be believable."
We'd already been told to meet up at least once a week, so increasing it to three times a week is understandable to make the public believe were actually together. But between that and everything that comes with school, when am I supposed to spend time with Liv?
"And then there's how you make it believable. You need to hold hands and kiss and do all that when you know there's cameras around so that there's a higher chance of someone catching it."
I can start to feel the panic rising as she continues, my chest begins to tighten and my leg bounces gently enough to not draw attention to myself.
"I would also suggest that you spend some time at each others houses. It would be great if we could get a few pictures out there of him leaving here -"
My focus is drifting away from her words to my thoughts, getting so lost in my own world that I don't even realise myself getting up from the couch and walking into the bathroom and lying the door behind me.
I take a seat on the closed lid of the toilet, resting my elbows on my knees and dropping my head into my hands, threading my fingers into my hair.
My ears are ringing, all I can hear is my heavy breathing and my heartbeat thumping in my ribcage. My chest continues to grow tighter, the feeling making it even harder to breathe.
The situation caused so many questions and thoughts to ping-pong around my head which only adds to the overwhelmed feeling taking over my senses, causing me to block out everything around me in hopes of calming myself down.
