Brooklynn nods, trying not to let her disappointment show. "No, you're good." She watches him move away; his phone pressed to his ear. The cool breeze sends a shiver down her spine, and she pulls her cardigan tighter around her.

While Percy's voice fades into the distance, she can't help but overhear snippets of his conversation. "Yeah, I'm out with a friend," he says, his tone nonchalant. A pang of doubt stabs at her. What am I thinking we never said anything's official but why do I feel so hurt? Am I just another conquest for him to brag about to his bandmates?

Her thoughts swirl like leaves in the wind as she makes her way to the movie theater. The neon lights cast a warm glow, and the smell of buttered popcorn fills the air. She takes a deep breath, trying to steady herself. This is just a casual hangout, she tells herself. But as she buys the tickets and waits for Percy, her heart races like a rabbit's.

Then she sees him, walking away from the theater, his phone still glued to his ear. Panic seizes her as she calls out his name, her voice lost in the bustle of students heading home. He doesn't turn around, and she's left staring at his retreating back, the tickets clutched in her hand. The doubt from earlier blooms into full-blown insecurity. Was this all just a joke to him?

Her eyes fill with tears as she dials Michael's number, her thumb shaking slightly. "Come get me," she says when he answers, her voice thick with emotion. "What happened?" he asks, the concern in his voice clear.
