"He ditched me," she sobs into the phone, the weight of the unspoken words crushing her chest. "Who?" Michael's tone sharpens, his mind racing through the possible scenarios.
"Percy," she chokes out. "Who else. He didn't even say anything."
"I kind of said that would happen" Michael says, his voice of sympathy. " But I'm on my way."
From across the street, Michael watches as she stands there, her shoulders slumped. He knows that look all too well, the one that says she's been hurt again. He sighs, tossing his half-eaten slice of pizza onto the plate and grabbing his jacket. As he walks out the door, the crunch of gravel under his shoes echoes through the quiet neighborhood. (Michael Knew this would happen so he was already across waiting for something bad to happen)
When he reaches the theater, he spots her immediately. Her eyes are red and puffy, and she's clutching her phone like it's a lifeline. He quickens his pace, feeling a mix of anger at Percy and guilt for not being there to protect her. "You okay brook?" he asks, wrapping an arm around her.
Brooklynn sniffs, wiping her eyes with the back of her hand. "Never felt better" she says sarcastically, her voice small. "He's just a jerk."
