Narrator's POV

TW (TRIGGER WARNING): description of violence

The ball was just as described. A long line of people waiting with invitation card getting checked by security. Seonghwa had forgotten about a small detail. His own invitation was still in his childhood house, in the clutches of his evil stepmother, that he presumed had been burnt. Noticing his distress, Yunho, the ever ready , was already holding an invitation.

Seonghwa to open the envelope of the invitation, sliding the paper off the card. His name was written in beautiful calligraphy. Gasping at the revelation , he looked at Yunho wondering how he got a personalised one . He shrugged and mentioned that he had a spare one that he was given at work.

At the entrance, Yunho face it up in recognition. Yunho excused himself from the two other men in which Seonghwa looked at Mingi in confusion , Mingi told him that he was just going to greet a friend.

The other man was a lot shorter than Yunho, like most people were, and had defined muscles underneath his black suit, his hair slicked back and an earpiece. Yunho waved them over, skipping the line in front, earning a few protests, but Mingi barely registered their noises dragging Seonghwa along.

Yunho introduced them, the guard name was Jongho , a colleague and friend. Jongho reprimanded them for skipping the line, but still let them in.

The guard had a look at Seonghwa when he was handing the invitation, and let him through with a smile. A gummy smile.

The hall was something out of the world. Big decorated with expensive jewels for the curtains, pictures of the royal family during other balls and then pictures of the previous kings and queens. There were appetisers all around, drinks of every colour. To add to the atmosphere, there was an orchestra playing some classical music from the most famous composers. As if the orchestra wasn't enough, they had a live band on the side for a more lively music when the time was needed.

They had had hired waiters who will go from person to person. There were more waiters than people at the ball, which was amazing because hundreds of people had attended the ball.

The light seems to emit small sparkles, falling on them, but Seonghwa noticed that none were on his skin. An illusion of lights.

They headed to the appetisers, like all the foodies of the ball, already devouring the small delicacies presented to them. And the trio were collecting on of each as they made their way down the table. Seonghwa's taste buds seems to rejoice as the different cuisines since he was the sole cook of his house, he usually just did whatever the madame wanted, barely having time to try out different cuisines.

After all the stuffing they made , they then went to mingle with the rest, talking and laughing.

Seonghwa stayed behind the two towers, overwhelmed by the rush of people. The married couple seemed to be social butterflies, making jokes, greeting everyone at the party, sharing drinks with a few people. Soon, Seonghwa was left on his own since gold retriever Yunho had found a couple of friends and Mingi being the clingy cat went off with him, a rush of people came.

They came one by one, as if to prey on the newest species.

And instead of coming in with claws , they came in with questions. People of the higher class and noble status, even though that idea had be demolished decades ago, cornered him asking question about his family status, dancing skills and recent shops visited. He commented that all the best designer shops had not been able to have such a dress amount their bestsellers. .
