This eerie image of the surroundings again caused my skin to tremor uneasily.

Where the heck is everybody? I wondered internally.

The more we approached the central region of the city, the more I got troubled finding no movement of even a single person along the way!

Had everybody vanished mysteriously into thin air?

(End of David POV)

"Damn! I knew it! I knew it!" David heard Joe shout loudly agitated as if he had just lost a huge bet.

Puzzled and curious to learn what the matter was, both David and Liz hurled immediate questioning glances right at him in unison. Completely puzzled and confusion glowing all over their faces.

"Speaking with some kind of ghosts there Joe? Or what is that you knew?" David enquired, refocusing his eyes back on the road.

Joe remained immersed on the phone and disbelief written all over his face. Both David and Liz could clearly smell that whatever he was reading on his phone was not any pleasant at all.

Joe blinked several times and then flared his nose, "Nothing quite threatening David, but just stumbled on a tensing message a friend of mine sent me a while ago alerting me that the entire city's communication network was about to be completely disabled!" he paused, swallowed hard, as if overrun by some sort of anguish and then continued, "and shockingly, he was very right since right now I cant find the network signal!"

An instant and sudden fierce jolt of fear rammed at David right on after Joe's chilling revelation, nearly causing him to veer the vehicle accidentally off the highway out of panic and shock. But lucky for him, for he was very able and quick enough to correct the fatal error on time before the inevitable befell them all!

Liz also swooped with disbelief, stirred with a dizzying sense of nervousness and started scrambling for her ultra thin smartphone from her pockets.

David sighed with despair and gave Joe a quick nervous glance, worry gnawing at him, "A-are you s-sure of t-that Joe?"

Joe responded in a beat, "am a hundred percent sure it is true David for I do trust the messenger plus the network signal is lacking in my phone at the mome..."

"Oh my Dave!" Liz interjected abruptly and alarmingly, cutting Joe out mid-sentence, "it's true and J-Joe is t-telling truth! I can't find network signal in mine too!"

Both men keeked immediately at her with two different expressions; Joe smiling happily at her for seconding his statement while David bared a fully surprised and shocked stare at her.

David's stomach flipped in distress, completely unable to fathom what he was hearing.

"Now with this, am now starting to believe both the Elderly man and Chris's warnings for right now I can say without any doubt that something sinister is evolving within this city and th..." Liz ranted with panic without moving her eyes from the phone before getting interrupted by curious Joe.

"Who are you talking about? Who are those elderly man and Chris you're referring to?" Joe enquired inquisitively.

Liz shrugged her shoulders, "some random strangers we encountered along the way"

Joe narrowed his eyes wanting to unravel more, "random strangers? What were they warning you about?"

Just then, Joe's question triggered some of the past memories she had been trying hard to suppress.

"i...i..well, i believe there is more to this infection than what we're seeing or hearing about it. Am very certain that there is something sinister transpiring deep inside my body but what am not quite sure of is how much more time is left of me b-before i succumb to darkness like the rest"
