CHAPTER TWO Just chilling

(Kathrine's POV)                                                             I'm hiding under the bed. Momma is mad again and yelling at Da who's drunk again and he's yelling back. They're yelling about food and money. Mommas mad that Da spent his money on booze and cigarettes and Da is mad at Momma for spending her money on drugs. They're getting louder and louder. Then Da raises his hand and smacks Momma across the face. Momma gets even madder and hits Da back then Da punches Momma in the stomach and leaves Momma on the floor. I accidentally let out a small quiet whimper and Momma's head snapped towards me. Momma had a really scary look in her eyes as she lunged at me, grabbing my arm and yanking me out from under the bed and she started screaming. "YOU USELESS CHILD!!!!!! YOU WERE SUPPOSED TO FIX MY MARRIAGE BUT YOU CAN'T EVEN DO THAT RIGHT! ALL YOU'VE DONE IS TAKE UP SPACE AND USE UP MONEY! I SHOULD JUST KILL YOU TO SAVE MYSELF THE TROUBLE!!" Momma gripped my throat. Distantly I could hear a pounding at the door but I was too focused on Momma, tears are falling down my face when did I start crying? Suddenly Momma was ripped off me by men in blue uniforms. I could hear someone talking to me but their voice was muffled, my vision was starting to blur, I felt hands on my shoulders and then it all went black. My eyes snapped open and I shot up with a gasp, hand flying to my throat. :Fuck, I haven't had that dream in a couple months. I need to do something to distract myself.: I got out of bed and grabbed some clothes and want to the bathroom to change. After I changed I went to the kitchen to make breakfast. The Jolly Ranchers I left for Alex were gone, with a not in its place saying "Thanks for the candy, see you when I get home." I smiled at the note and went to the fridge to get some eggs. A few minutes later I heard shuffling in the bedroom. :Ah! Tina's awake.: Soon Valentina stumbled into the kitchen. "Good morning Tina! How did you sleep?" "Good." She said, she sounds a little off. "Hey Tina is everything okay?" "Itchy." Oh "Are your wings bothering you?" "Mhm." "Do you want me to preen them?" "Mhm!" "Alright, you can sit in the couch, I'll be done with breakfast in a minute, okay?" "Okay." After I finished with breakfast and put it on a plate, I walked to the couch. "Alright I'm going to start preening your wings okay?" "Okay." The second my hand touched her wing Valentina let out happy chirps and melted into my touch. As I continued preening her wings she let out more happy chirps and fell deeper into her instincts. Soon I was done preening her wings and I moved to get up. Tina let out a long sad whine as soon as my hands left her wings. "Just a minute Tina, I'm getting food you have to eat." I know she's to deep in her instincts to understand what I'm saying. I grabbed the plate and sat down on the couch. Before i fully sat Tina threw herself into my lap and I almost dropped the plate. Tina let out more chirps. I think Alex said that those chirps were crying but I don't remember and I can't understand either of them when they're in their instincts. I put the plate in front of me and adjusted Tina in my lap. As I was feeding her I thought about last night. Fuck, what was I thinking? Oh wait, I wasn't. Alex is gonna be pissed if I tell him so I'm just not going to tell him. Suddenly a demanding chirp broke my train of thought. I looked down to an empty plate and an upset child in my lap. "What's wrong?" "Chirp." "What do you want? I preened your wings, fed you, I-......... Do you want cuddles?" "Chirp!" "I'll take that as a yes." (Time skip) Me and Tina were sitting at the table making little beaded bracelets when I heard the door open. "I'm home!" Ah! Alex is back. Tina jumped out of her chair and ran to the living room. "PAPA!!!" "Hey sweetheart! How was your day?" "Good!" I walk into the living room to see Alex holding Tina in his arms. "Hey Alex, how was your day?" "Long." "Oh by the way we both have work tomorrow, who's going to take Tina?" "I can- what happened to the kitchen?" Shit. "Well... I found what seemed to be a fun science experiment online that involved fire that uh got a little out of control." Alex looked at me for a moment before he let out a long sigh. "I'll order take out." He said sounding defeated"Papa can we watch a movie?" Alex looked at Tina. "Sure thing sweetheart, is there anything in particular you want to watch?" "The jungle book!" "Ok!" (Time skip) "I wanna be like yo-o-u. I wanna walk like you, talk like you. Ohhhhh!" We were all singing along to "I wanna be like you." Suddenly I got a notification on my phone. It was my boss. A coworker is sick and my boss is asking me if I could cover for them. "Hey Alex?" "Hm?" "My coworker is sick and my boss wants me to take their shift so I'll probably be at work late." "Ok." I texted my boss and said I would take the coworkers shift and went back to the movie. (Time skip) As I walked from the bathroom to the couch to go to bed Alex stoped me. "I don't want you to go on patrol tomorrow." "Why?" "You know why." "Yeah I do." "Promise me you won't." "I won't I promise." "Thanks, goodnight Kathrine." "Goodnight Alexzander." And with that he went to the bedroom and I went to the couch. I checked the door and turned off the lights. I settled onto the couch and went to sleep. 1019 words
