during their short separation, lots of girls from their college had gotten their hopes up. they believed they could make kageyama tobio fall in love with them like y/n did.
little did they know, he fell first. from the first time he saw her in osamu's post, he had started falling. he never told anyone other than his older sister who knows everything.
a level of fame was often given to student athletes, especially if they were good-looking. this meant that wherever kageyama went, he'd be recognized. usually when he was on the way to class.
"kageyama-kun, hi!" speak of the devil, the girl who had her hopes up the most. the girl who didn't seem to know how to take a hint, no matter how many times he turned down her advances.
"so there's this new boba place that opened up near campus, i was thinking of going. do you maybe wanna go together after class?" kageyama fought the urge to roll his eyes.
"no, it's alright. i've already been there with my girlfriend and our friends." although, the word 'girlfriend' seemed to have passed right through one ear and out through the other.
"oh, really? did you like it? i've been hearing all good things about it so i'm curious to know what you think."
luckily, kageyama was saved by his lecture room door getting closer and closer. she would finally leave him alone.

as soon as his class ended, kageyama rushed to leave the lecture room. he privately promised to himself that he would never ever leave y/n waiting long for their dates again. so far he had been doing good at keeping it.
he left the room with a triumphant little smile on his face. he'd arrive to their eating place right on time.... is what he thought, but when a familiar figure started nearing him, his hopes started going south.
"kageyama-kun, hi! how was class?" he honestly feels a little bad for her, he doesn't even remember her name.
"it was alright, but i'm in a rush to get somewhere so if you'll excuse me.." she was about to open her mouth to blab again when the voice he actually wanted to hear spoke up.
"tooobi, hey." kageyama's heart warmed at the endearing nickname his girlfriend gave him and turned towards the direction of her voice. "hi, love."
she walked up to him and gave him his recent favorite form of affection, a big hug. he let all the uncomfort from that girl out as he and his girl basked in each other's warmth.
the forgotten girl watched the sappy scene go down and immediately started stomping away, much like a toddler would after not getting what they want.
she thought kageyama could do so much better, unfortunately for her, kageyama was already seeing forever with y/n. so she, or anyone else, had no chance at all.
"that girl must've heard about our split but not our getting back together 'cause she really seemed like she wasn't going away." y/n commented as they walked hand-in-hand to eat lunch.
kageyama only let out a non-commital hum, he didn't want to think about her anymore. especially since he had the girl that was the subject of all his thoughts, all the time, right beside him.
"who is she, anyway?" let me rephrase, kageyama didn't want to think or talk about the girl anymore but he would be willing to anything y/n wanted so if she wanted to then so be it!
despite that, he replied with a quiet mumble. "huh?" too quiet, apparently. "i said.. i don't even remember her name." his girlfriend burst out laughing.
"tobi, have i told you i loved you today?" she asked with an adorable fake-thinking expression on her face. kagayema, however, stopped in his tracks. they hadn't said the three words to each other yet.
at least, not out loud. all of their actions implied that they were very much in love with each other, but they never actually said it yet.
"tobi?" suddenly, y/n looked ten times prettier than she did ten seconds ago. "no, you haven't told me yet."
"oh, then, i love you." there was so much sincerity in her eyes, it was almost scary. but kageyama decided that he was in this for life. he was just as sincere as she was and she needed to know.
"i love you more." fierce determination burned in his pupils as he responded and y/n let out a giggle, "i knew you'd be competitive about this."
there went kageyama's heart again, warming and squeezing, and jack-rabbiting, and it was all caused by her.
'i knew you' she said, she knew him. she knew kageyama. something so small shouldn't have caused such a mass malfunction in his brain but there she went again, making impossible things possible.
the first people that really took the time to know him after his grandfather's passing was his high school volleyball team, karasuno. and now y/n, the girl he wants to spend the rest of his life with.
he sends a silent thank you to his grandpa, and to his old teammates for getting to know him, so that y/n could find him and know him too.
it was then that he really understood the saying, 'to be known is to be loved' because he has been known, he is known and he feels so much love. he's basically overflowing with it.
"i love you." he tells her again, he doesn't think he could stop even if he tried.
