"Let's break up," Jennie repeated, her voice weak but firm.
Taehyung's heart twisted with guilt and anxiety. He had been so caught up in his own doubts and fears that he had forgotten about Jennie's illness. How could he even think of breaking up with her when she was already suffering so much?
"Jennie, no, we can't," Taehyung said, his voice shaking. "Not now, not when you're sick. I need to take care of you."
But Jennie just turned away, her eyes welling up with tears. "You don't need to, Taehyung. I'll be fine."
Taehyung's eyes stung with tears as he realized the truth. He wasn't ready to let go of Jennie, not yet.
He needed to be there for her, to support her through her illness.
"Jennie, please," Taehyung said, his voice cracking. "Don't say that. I'll stay, I'll take care of you."
"Leave me alone, Taehyung!" Jennie shouted, her voice hoarse from exhaustion. "Just like you always do! You only come to me when it's convenient for you, but when I need you, you're never there!"
Taehyung took a step back, his eyes stinging from her words.
He knew she was right.
He had been distant, neglecting her needs when she was sick.
"Jennie, I..." he started to say, but she cut him off.
"No, Taehyung! You always got annoyed when I asked you to do something for me when I was sick. You never wanted to take care of me, never wanted to be bothered. So just leave me alone now, like you always do!"
Taehyung's face burned with shame and regret. He remembered those times, how he had prioritized his own needs over hers, how he had ignored her pleas for help.
"Jennie, please forgive me," he said, his voice barely above a whisper.
But Jennie just turned away, her body shaking with sobs. "Just go, Taehyung. I don't need you."
Jennie lay on her bed, feeling like she'd been drained of all her energy. Her sickness seemed to be worsening by the minute, and she couldn't muster up the strength to even lift her head.
-
Taehyung stood by the door, his heart heavy with regret and worry. He knew he had made things worse, and he didn't know how to make it right. He turned to leave.
But as he opened the door, he was met with a blast of cold air and the sound of heavy snowfall.
He hesitated, looking back at Jennie's fragile form on the bed. He couldn't just leave her like this, not when she was so sick and alone. But she had told him to go, and he didn't want to make things worse.
As he stood there, the snowfall grew heavier, until it was almost a blizzard. Taehyung knew he couldn't leave now, not in this weather. He would have to stay, at least until the storm passed.
With a sigh, he closed the door and walked back to Jennie's bedside. He looked down at her, his heart aching with love and concern.
He gently pulled the blankets up to her chin, trying not to disturb her.
"I'm not leaving," he whispered, his voice barely audible over the sound of the snow. "Not until you're better, Jennie. I promise."
Taehyung walked into the kitchen, determined to make things right. He knew Jennie loved his cooking, but he also knew she had been resistant to his help earlier. So, he decided to cook her favorite dishes, the ones she always asked for when she was feeling down.
He started by making a big pot of her favorite chicken noodle soup, just the way she liked it - with extra ginger and garlic. Then, he moved on to her favorite comfort food - creamy tomato pasta, with a side of garlic bread.
As he cooked, Taehyung poured all his heart and effort into the dishes, hoping that the love and care he put into the food would somehow translate to Jennie's heart.
He wanted her to feel his apology, his regret, and his love through the food.
Finally, after what felt like hours, the food was ready. Taehyung carefully arranged everything on a tray, making sure it looked appealing and appetizing. He even added a few of Jennie's favorite snacks on the side, hoping to tempt her into eating.
With the tray in hand, Taehyung walked back to Jennie's bedside, his heart filled with hope and anticipation. He gently placed the tray in front of her, and whispered
"Jennie, I made your favorite food. Please, just try a little bit. For me."
Jennie's eyes narrowed as she saw Taehyung standing beside her with a tray of food. "Why are you still here?" she asked, her voice weak but laced with annoyance.
Taehyung hesitated, unsure of how to respond. "I...I wanted to make sure you're okay," he said, his voice soft.
But Jennie just shook her head, her eyes closing in exhaustion. "Just leave me alone, Taehyung."
But as she lay there, her body began to shake with cold. Taehyung noticed and quickly realized that the open corridor in her room was making her feel chilled.
"Jennie, let me take you to the dining room," he said, gently. "It's warmer there. You can eat something and get warm."
At first, Jennie resisted, but her exhaustion soon took over. She didn't have the strength to argue, and Taehyung carefully scooped her up in his arms, carrying her to the dining room.
As they sat down at the table, Taehyung wrapped a blanket around her shoulders, trying to warm her up. He ladled out a bowl of steaming hot soup and placed it in front of her, his eyes filled with concern.
"Eat, Jennie," he whispered. "Please. You need to get warm and strong again."
Jennie's eyes flashed with protest as Taehyung placed the bowl of soup in front of her, but as the aroma of her favorite dish wafted up, her stomach growled loudly, betraying her. She tried to ignore it, but the smell was too enticing, and her hunger too great.
Taehyung watched, hopeful, as Jennie's gaze fell to the food. He saw the faintest glimmer of interest in her eyes, and he knew he had her.
Slowly, Jennie picked up the spoon, her hand trembling slightly. She took a small sip of the soup, and her eyes widened as the flavors danced on her tongue. It was just as she liked it - hot, savory, and comforting.
Without another thought, Jennie began to eat, her spoon clinking against the bowl as she devoured the soup, the pasta, and the garlic bread. Taehyung watched, a small smile on his face, as Jennie's eyes lit up with pleasure.
As she ate, Jennie's exhaustion seemed to fade, replaced by a warm, fuzzy feeling that spread through her chest. She couldn't help but feel a little grateful to Taehyung, who had gone to so much trouble to make her favorite food.
But she wasn't ready to forgive him yet. Not by a long shot.
