Back at HQ the employees have already started celebrating, upon arrival the pilots were welcomed by cheer and drinks. Everyone was so proud of their hard work, today was nothing they had ever come to face with before but despite the lack of knowledge they managed to fight against the angel and win!
But Shinji wasn't so cheerful, all he could think about was Kaworu and what Nerv was going to do with him.
"Shinji whats the matter?" Misato swayed over, a drink in hand "Arent you having fun?" She asked the boy, but how could he be having fun. "Misato the angel, what is going to happen to him?" he queried
"well... I'm not quite sure to be fair, we are just holding him in a cell for now, i think we are probably gonna run some tests but i don't know, its commander Ikari's decision. Why do you want to know?"
"Just out of curiosity." Shinji smiled
Misato knew deep down it was more than curiosity, she could see the worry flickering in his eyes. She didn't know what to think of that performance today, the way Shinji ran to embrace that angel. Something in her heart told her that there was nothing to be worried about, and that angel is something entirely different.
she broke away from her thoughts "Okay, anything else u wanted to ask?"
He thought for a moment but there was nothing, instead he decided to snitch on Asuka out of spite "No but Asuka is drinking a kopparberg."
"I know i gave it to her." Misato replied
"Oh right." he nodded his chest melting with embarrassment, there was no winning in trying to play back at Asuka.

After the excitement died down all the employees went back to work, and the pilots were off back to bed since it was still pretty late. Asuka and Rei managed to fall asleep easily, after all they were exhausted from today's mission, but Shinji still lied awake, clutching at his aching heart. He couldn't even think about sleep knowing Kaworu was somewhere in the building probably being tortured.
He slipped out of bed justifying as "holding back is bad for health" and cautiously turned the doorknob, careful not to wake his roommates. Beyond the dark room was a dimly lit hall with a few doors dotted throughout, he concluded they were all spare rooms for shelter or other use. He started towards the end of the corridor, it looked like.. an old care unit? that would explain the hospital beds in the room Shinji thought. He reached to the end of the hall and walked through a door that brought him to the main part of HQ.
He knew his way around from here, he found himself sneaking towards Misato's office. Slowly creaking the door open he found that it was empty and started to scan her desk for a keycard which he would use to access Nerv's containment area, after rummaging through a few drawers he found his object and quickly made his way out without making too much noise, incase people were roaming the outside.
He sneaks towards a sealed metal door and uses the stolen keycard to access the containment chambers, upon entering, in a dimly lit cell he saw kaworu laying on the floor, somehow looking much paler than before. He quietly moved towards the cell.
"Shinji?" the angel looked up at him with dark circles under his eyes, he looked like he hadn't slept either. Shinji crouched down to his level "How are you feeling?"
After a moment of hesitation Kaworu looked down at his palms and sadly sighed "i am a failure, i disappointed the father."
"I understand." Shinji weakly replied, a twinge of pain scraping at his chest seeing Kaworu looking so distressed. Kaworu looked at shinji with an unidentifiable expression
"No matter what i did i was never good enough for my father, i did everything right yet i was somehow never up to standards, he simply just didn't care."
Kaworu weakly smiled "I guess Gods can work in ways like that, yet i still don't understand." He paused thoughtfully, "This life is so cruel Shinji why do you choose to live on?"
Shinji didn't really have a definite answer as to why he carried on "Well, i guess a reason could be the instinct to survive, the biology that makes us keep going, maybe its a good thing we have this, God's small gift to the earth so we can at least live through the few good moments, i suppose we take that for granted."
"I suppose that's one reason to go on." Kaworu replied
Shinji's lips contort into a smile "Y-your definitely one of the reasons id like to keep going." he nervously stuttered, flustering himself. Kaworu grinned watching Shinji freeze himself up, the 2 sat there in peaceful silence for a while.
Slowly Kaworu reached his hand out to grab Shinji, so cautiously and silently he didn't even know the hand was making his was towards his arm, but he responded by sandwiching kaworus snowy hands between his, they sure felt like snow too. They sit there for a while longer, fingers intertwining. Until Kaworu pulled out of the lock to wrap his arms around the boy's slim figure.
"I love you Shinji."
