In the middle of the night the 3 teens are awoken by a piercing alarm and a panting Misato bursting through the door.
"WHAT THE FUCK!" Asuka instinctively jumped out of bed, using a pillow to defend herself.
"An angel has appeared, hurry and get your plug suits on!" Misato urged. "I'M NOT CHANGING INFRONT OF HIM" Asuka hissed at the half-awake boy. "You have no choice there is no time right now Asuka! get ready and meet me at the launch points."
Rei slipped out of bed and immediately began following orders, before Misato left she stopped "Rei you stay and rest, you're too injured." And She silently slipped back into bed, Misato left leaving the 2 to get dressed
"THATS NOT FAIRRRRRRRR!!" Asuka yelled, ripping her plugsuit out of a bag "YOU BETTER NOT LOOK, TURN AROUND." She demanded, Shinji still half asleep followed the command and began changing in the opposite direction. Once changed the cold tight latex on his body woke him up and his heart began racing the same way it always did before battle.
The 2 pilots left and headed towards the launch pads, getting into their evas, and letting the LCL fill their lungs as they began to ascend. It had been a while since they had last fought an angel, for some reason this time Shinji had this sense of dread pooling in his gut as they reached the surface. The 2 stay on their guard, searching for the angel but nothing is in sight.
Misato connects to the speaker "You are going to have to find the Angel yourselves, we are unable to track it for some reason, it appears on our radar then just disappears. But stay on guard, last reading shows that it's nearby. You should split up to get some better sight on it"
"OH FOR FUCK SAKE" Asuka broke away and began searching, Shinji reluctantly did the same controlling his unit away with trembling hands. Something was seriously wrong, he could sense the terrible aura of the coming future.
He started towards the lake to search there, when in the middle of his view a small figure hovered in midair, he squinted his eyes trying to make it out as he approached "K-kaworu?"
Misato appeared on air, "That's it Shinji, you've found our Angel. Now centre the Target and shoot."
"B-but.. that's.." He began walking closer to the entity "SHINJI WHAT ARE YOU DOING, DONT GO NEAR IT!" Misato urged. Ignoring her commands he came face to face with his Angel, his milky soft skin and his piercing red eyes in view. "Kaworu?" he manoeuvres the evas hand beneath him
Kaworu softly lands in its palm and looks into the eva's eyes somberly "I'm sorry I have to do this Shinji."
The sky starts to grow dark, as black as sin. Misato and Asuka scream at him through the speakers hysterically, but its all one blur, none of their words make sense to him anymore, like it was a foreign language. He shifted his focus back onto the Angel sitting in his palms, he looked into the sky then back at Kaworu. "Why is this happening? What's going on Kaworu? Are you really an Angel?"
"This will be hard for you to understand Shinji, but this planet is riddled with sin. There is no use in keeping this planet in the stratosphere, humanity can't continue for any longer, That is my purpose."
Shinji had been confused about Kaworu all along, but now he realised his feelings. He ejected his entry plug and climbed out, shuffling onto his eva's shoulders and down onto its arm. He began running towards Kaworu and tackling him to the ground in a tight embrace. "I love you Kaworu, i hadn't realised my feeling before but everything makes sense now!"
Kaworu is caught off guard by the sudden affection, but instantly melts into the hug, it felt right. He stares into Shinji's eyes, cupping his cheeks. "But why Shinji, you too are a victim of this planet's cruelty. How can you come to feel love after everything that's happened to you?"
"I'd live through hell if it meant I got to see you at the end." Kaworu is deeply moved, he can feel his heart beating in his chest which he had never felt before. Something had changed in him, before he was an empty vessel designed to follow an order, but now he found himself blushing, staring into those navy eyes of a boy called Shinji Ikari. Perhaps for all the sin, it is worth the little good this planet lends.
He looks back into the sky "That's a crioch (meaning end/limit) its purpose was to wipe out humanity, this was a command from the leaders but clearly, it was a mistake." He turned away In shame.
From out of nowhere Asuka's unit 2 began charging at Shinji's unit 1, the pilot quickly realised. "ASUKA STOP STOP ITS OK!" Shinji tried yelling at her, but she ignored his pleas. She aimed her dagger for the white-haired boy but before she could take a stab at him Rei's unit 0 appeared in front of her, blocking her attack. "GET OUT OF MY WAY DOLLY, I HAVE A JOB TO DO!" she fought against her
"stop, killing the angel won't help this. In order to stop this we need to use our combined AT fields to block it." she urged in her emotionless voice.
"SCREW THAT, IM FOLLOWING ORDERS AND GETTING RID OF THAT BASTARD!" She protested trying to push through Rei's barricade. Misato spoke on air "She's right Asuka, we don't have much time left before that thing closes in on us."
"UGH FINE, why has everyone got to be against me!" Rei and Asuka began to activate their AT fields, standing close to each other and sharing over synchronisation data for their fields to merge into one. Shinji told Kaworu to take cover and hurried back into the entry plug. Kaworu left the palm of the eva, gracing through the air at a safe distance. Shinji rushed to join the girls and added his AT field
"Oh well look who decided to rejoin the team, the angels apprentice." Asuka mocked, Shinji ignored her comments and began to hold back the crioch. The darkness slowly dissipated but with so little activity time was it possible to completely stop it? Kaworu noticed the struggle and joined in with his AT field at a different angle, since he wouldn't be able to merge with theirs (because he angelic)
In the last 5 seconds of power, they had they managed to completely disperse the crioch, the darkness faded away into the blue night sky, and stars began shining all over. Misato could be heard cheering through the speakers "Great job guys, one last thing before you return. Asuka capture that Angel and bring him back."
Unit 2 grabs the boy out of mid-air and starts making its way back to Nerv, The angel doesn't try to resist.
"NO STOP ASUKA, LET HIM GO HE HASN'T DONE ANYTHING WRONG!" Shinji screamed chasing after the other eva
"oh get a grip baby Shinji." she clutched the angel, blood now streaming down unit 2's wrist. "STOP YOUR HURTING HIM YOU IDIOT!" Before he could attack rei grabbed his shoulder, pulling him back
"come on, lets go."
