The new boy: 1

This day is dragging Shinji thought as he lost himself in the abyss of the blackboard, it was last period math class, and he was urging the clock to hurry up and announce home time. He wished he could just rest his head on the desk and go to other places while time teased, but he knew far too well by now if he lowered his head just an inch that his math teacher be up his ass, scolding him for not paying attention.

It had been like that all day, it was like that every day. Wake up, go to school, go home, go to bed, and repeat it all the following day. Life just felt like a bland cycle for Shinji Ikari, not even the exciting subjects or new knowledge brought any feeling to his tedious life. He was there, blinking and breathing, but was he really still alive?

He huffed aloud dragging his pen across the paper, suddenly his senses came to life. A strange unsettling feeling began within him, it was completely out of the blue.

What is this? he ran a hand down the back of his neck, he could feel all hairs standing on end, prickling his hand as it brushed by. The sense grew as he couldn't identify the source of this strange feeling. He felt a foreign form of existential dread complimented by a shot of fear. He began to inspect the classroom, turning his head in all directions but failing to find anything that could relate to this feeling, until in the corner of his eye he noticed an absurdly pale figure. His dread only began to deepen as he identified that as the source.

He hesitantly spun around to get a full view only to be struck by a pair of blood-red eyes fixed to a pale face. It was a boy Shinji had never seen before, with skin as white as pearls and a set of vibrant red eyes that looked as if blood ran through them, that stared into Shinji's soul, accompanied by a charming yet uncanny smile.

He was beautiful.

Shinji admired the way his snowy white mane perfectly framed his face, like every single strand had set him up to be angel-like. He soon realised he had probably been gawking for too long, he left the boy with an awkward but friendly smile before turning back around in his seat, yet it felt as though the other's eyes hadn't changed their viewpoint since the interaction. Shinji sat uncomfortably in his seat as he felt the eyes of the boy digging into the back of his head. He dared not turn around again, yet he had the urge to take another peek at the boy's strange appearance, you must resist he warned himself as though he would drop dead on the spot if he were to take another look, so he stayed put, shuffling in his seat.

Could this lesson go by any slower he pondered as he suffered the eyes burning into his skin for the remainder of the lesson, the entire time he had to endure it he couldn't relax for a single second, it felt as though those blood-red eyes had frozen him in place and threatened to shoot lasers into his skull if he dared to get comfortable.

at last, the bell finally rang, and for Shinji it chimed like a sweet hymn of relief and salvation. He didn't take any time to pack his things up and hurry out of the classroom, making sure to avoid looking in the direction of the strange boy. On the way out he found both Toji and Kensuke waiting for him by the door.

"Arent you glad that's finally over." Toji yawned stretching his arms, i truly am Shinji thought silently "have you seen that new boy Shinji? the one with the red eyes?" Kensuke perked up "he looks like something out of a fantasy game, like some sort of vampire or alien entity." he started punching the air cooly as though he was imitating some sort of game character. So I'm not the only one to notice him, hell how could anyone not have noticed him Shinji thought "Yeah I've seen him." he replied.

"he's probably albino or something, i don't like the way he looks, red eyes are a clear sign of evil." Toji sneered. How could he say that? in Shinjis eyes that boy was the embodiment of beauty despite his unsettling nature.

"give up Toji, your just jealous of how popular he is with the girls, you saw class rep looking at him didn't ya?" Kensuke playfully elbowed him, Toji was not at all humouring this.

Shinji couldn't be arsed to hear the two bickering so he quickly said his goodbyes and went ahead, shortly after the 2 left behind caught up with him and they all headed home together.

The hallways that were once full of life and laughter were now empty, all students had gone home except for one. There stood a pale white body, looking in the direction the 3 boys had left. He stared into the distance thoughtfully. Although his mind remained as desolate as the halls, all he could come up with was one short word.

"hm, shinji."

Time skip brought to you by Kaworu's headless body.

Shinji arrived home, feeling at ease once he stepped through into the living room. School was over and now he had time to chill and relax (in other words rotting in his bed). He lunged onto the couch and buried his head into a cushion, it was nice to be home.

Nevermind.

"SHINJI YOU LAZY BRAT!" Asuka dropped into the scene, prepared to give the exhausted boy a bollocking. "THIS FRIDGE HAS BEEN LEFT OPEN SINCE 7 AM THIS MORNING, AND YOU WERE THE LAST BIG BACK, AND THE ONLY BIG BACK, TO BE SCUFFLING THROUGH IT, AND YOU COULDN'T EVEN BE ARSED TO CLOSE THE DOOR. MISATO PAYS FOR THE ELECTRICITY BILL, YOU WANT TO BURDEN HER WITH THE COST OF YOUR LAZINESS? YOU SELFISH IGNORANT PIG!

Shinji buried his wincing face into a pillow, in an attempt to block out the painfully high decibels asukas voice produced. Where was Misato anyway? She is usually home around this time, but lately shes been coming home a lot later than usual.

He worked up the courage to lift his head and ask "Where is Misato?" Asuka looked at him with an irritated expression, which made him feel a fool despite not doing anything. "SHES AT WORK, YOU ASKED THIS YESTERDAY."

Did i? Shinji wondered, trying to recall yesterday. But his mind couldn't even comprehend a yesterday, his visions of yesterday merge with the events of today, and tomorrow will be a vision similar or the same as today. The same routine is repeated every day and he can't even think of what went differently.

Then he remembered, that boy. That was different today.

Shinji apologised for his carelessness with the fridge and took refuge in his bedroom, shutting the door and blocking out the rabid girl. His bedroom was the only place Shinji could feel at ease. At first, this room was unpleasant, a strange foreign place where he would lock himself up at night, along with the bad thoughts in his head. In this desolate room all you can do is think. But over time the room became more familiar to him as a place of comfort, being able to hide from Asuka, and the stress of his reality. He could just lay in bed and listen to his music, and when there's music there's no thoughts but the tranquillity of strolling out of the real world for a while.

But tonight, despite the music Shinji still had thoughts, had he over-listened to this track and ruined its effects? Luckily the uninvited thoughts weren't about his father or any of that sort, but rather about that boy in his class.

He tried to push the image aside but it just kept coming back to mind like a severe rash. That white skin of his, he looked as though he was dead. Like the blood and life had stopped flowing through his veins and there was nothing left but emptiness, but what a handsome living corpse he made. With his burning crimson eyes striking like a bonfire on a gloomy night, and his velvet smooth skin that covered his flesh like a soft white sheet of satin.

A/n: im so happy to be finally writing again, i have been thinking about this for a while and i finally have the motivation. Its been a while since ive read or written any literature, I've only recently got back into it so mind I'm a bit rusty. Maybe the writing might get better as the story progresses, that's what i hope for at least.
