As the boys began shoving their way onto the court, Shinji worked up the confidence to approach his teacher and plead "Please sir, I don't feel well can I please just sit out this once?"

"Absolutely not, you're only doing this because your mates aren't here. Don't try insulting my intelligence boy, we are doing only tennis today surely you can handle that. You can pair with him today, he doesn't have a partner." He pointed to a boy and you wouldn't believe who; that incredibly pasty boy that seized Shinji's mind.

Shinji felt his heart rattle as the boy softly smiled at him, he wanted to say something but he just couldn't, instead, he mumbled incoherency as the 2 of them went to retrieve rackets and a ball, neither spoke to each other as they walked back to their court and separated themselves between the net.

The pale one started the game with a strong serve and they started a rally back and forth, their eyes following the others intensely. Shinji furiously darted after the ball in every impossible direction it went, afraid to embarrass himself in front of the boy. There were many times Shinji could have scored himself a point if he let the ball go over the court, but Shinji didn't think of the game, his only goal was not to look like a loser to the boy across the court.

They continued their rally until the end of the lesson, neither side scored any points. However, their teacher was impressed with how long they managed to keep it up. "Great work you two, I've never seen such a perfect rally. However, if either of you boys want to win you ought to learn some rules about tennis."

Shinji didn't care for the criticism, all he heard was that he did great in front of his favourite unnamed boy, he turned to the other side of the court grinning only to see the boy had already started towards the changing rooms along with the others. He quickly caught up to him before he could be lost in the mass of students "Hey" Shinji politely grabbed his shoulder, he could feel the sharp bone underneath his flesh "We did great out there today." He shyly smiled

The boy turned around, striking Shinji once again with those crimson globes. He smiled back to Shinji and quietly replied "Yes, we did." before eluding into the crowd.

Shinji was startled to hear him speak, but how lovely it was. Those few words repeated in his head for the rest of the day, that soft voice of his felt warm and welcoming, like a hot blazing fire on a cold winter's evening. He regret to not have heard more of it.

Shinji began walking home, with the boy in mind. He couldn't understand why he felt so drawn to him, was it his strange appearance that caught his eye? Even so, what does that have to do with these weird feelings he pondered, one minute he felt afraid, and the next minute he felt at peace.

As he's walking some strange force causes him to stop in his tracks, he turns to the bench he just passed. And what do you know, he's there simply smiling at him, sitting with his legs politely crossed, almost as if he was waiting for him. The 2 boys stare at each other in silence, not much of a word in either of their minds. Shinji felt the need to greet him but his voice hid under the surface.

"Hey let me show you something." He grabbed a hold of Shinjis's hand and began charging, practically dragging the poor boy down a nearby snicket. Shinji began to panic desperately reaching for anything; a wall or a corner to try and stop himself, but at the same time his legs refused to protest and involuntarily moved along with the boy. And with reason, that strange feeling of fear had come back again.

He was led up a flight of stairs and the next thing he knew he was on top of a building, the boy still holding his hand dragged him towards the edge and forced him to crouch down beside him. "Just wait a second for it to get darker, the lights will turn on in a minute." He excitedly looked out towards the city.

Before Shinji had a chance to question, a series of large buildings began to emerge from the earth, they towered over the ground casting a dark shadow upon the city, but one by one the buildings started to light up the sky, creating a land of dazzling illuminations across what was once a boring old city.

"This is Tokyo 3, but I'm sure you know that already. This is my favourite place to view it, it's a shame such a beautiful landscape belongs to this earth, it will all go to waste." He gently squeezed Shinjis's hand, mournfully looking up into the sky.

Shinji stared in awe at the breathtaking scenery, Misato had shown him this a long time ago when he first arrived here, but it was nothing compared to this view of the city, he had forgotten how truly magnificent this place was. Suddenly the warmth in his hand left as the boy let go, he stood up and took one step onto the railing.

Shinjis eyes grew comically wide with horror "H-hey! What are you doing! Get down from there you'll hurt yourself." he wasn't going to do what it looked like he was about to do... was he?

The boy turned to Shinji and held out his hand. "Come Shinji." He whispered gently. Behind him the sun began to set, and the sky turned a blood orange. He stood there waiting with the wind delicately blowing through his pearl-white mane, it was mesmerising.

Shinji's heart begged to take that hand and give in to the strange cravings in his heart, but his brain stepped in and dragged him away. He slowly backed away from the boy, his head began to spin and he started shaking frantically, overwhelmed by his emotions. What the hell am i thinking?

"I-i... have to go home now! t-thanks for showing me this!" He darted for the stairs, leaving the lonesome boy to himself.

He jumped down from the railing, an emptiness began to swell in his heart as he watched Shinji leave.

"Shinji-kun...."

A/n: I took a day off school today, i had a complete melt down this morning because I didn't sleep at all and didn't want to go. After mum left i started smashing my head against the wall and crying because i am mature. (also can we just appreciate how this chapter is called Tokyo and is chapter 3, i thought this was clever)
