When they got in their apartment, Victoria went straight to her office. Casey knew that her wife, albeit her cold and aloof demeanor, is actually a bit short tempered and sensitive when it comes to her loved ones.
Surprisingly, Casey was the more level-headed one out of the pair. She got it thanks to the bedside manners class from med school and dealing with countless patients.
You can say they both balanced each other.
Almost two hours had gone past since Phoebe left them in the car. Both the alphas didn't realize the sky was turning dark grey. Casey was the first one to realize. She immediately took out her phone and began to call Phoebe. All of the calls went unanswered.
It was on the third call when rain started pouring.
"She's not answering her phone" Casey barged in Victoria's office panicked.
"She hasn't come back? She probably needs more time" Victoria pinched her nose.
"It's starting to rain Vic," Casey went over to Victoria's desk and paused the music playing from her laptop. Victoria has this habit of putting on loud music when she's stressed. Casey remembered thinking of how pretentious the blonde alpha was, listening to classical music. She remembered Victoria explaining that being drowned in the cacophony of instruments is one of the two things that can actually calm her down.
With the loud music and no windows present at her office, Victoria had no way of knowing it was raining.
"We need to find her." Victoria grabbed her coat and umbrella before rushing towards the apartment door. Casey followed behind her.
"You stay here Case, in case she comes home." Victoria stopped Casey from following.
Casey wanted to refuse, she wanted to go out and search for her omega, but looking at Victoria, she knows when she needs to back down. Besides, what if Phoebe came back to an empty apartment while both of them are out searching for Phoebe? Victoria made a good point. Casey can only nod her head in agreement.
"Call me when you find her," she hugged her wife.
"Let me know if she returns okay?" Victoria kissed the younger alpha.
—
"Shit."
Phoebe trudged through the park, the rain pounding her from all sides. Her shirt was starting to get drenched and clung to her skin, offering no protection against the cold. Her phone was dead, so calling her alphas to pick her up was not an option. The sky is beginning to turn dark, the gray sky covering the light of day, little by little.
She ended up taking refuge under a massive oak tree in the middle of the park. It can't shield her completely but it was better than nothing. Phoebe kept shifting from one foot to the other, in an effort to stay warm. She was contemplating whether to stay put and wait until the rain stops or just try to make it home through the rain.
Her anger diminished 20 minutes ago and was replaced with understanding and regret. Yes she was angry that they acted on her behalf. It was her job, her decision, not theirs. But after a lot of thinking, they got a point. What if George sent his other friends? What would happen when Jack is released? Phoebe is not safe. She has to go home. Now.
Just as she was about to leave, she heard the sound of footsteps quickly approaching. She looked up and saw Victoria, holding her coat tightly around her body with one hand while the other struggled keeping her umbrella stable. Her face was filled with worry as she approached Phoebe. "Phoebe," she shouted over the rain, her voice strained, "I've been looking for you"
Phoebe looked up in surprise and relief. "Victoria? What are you doing out here?"
The blonde alpha didn't answer right away. Instead, she removed her coat and put it on Phoebe.
"No, you need it, it's cold" Phoebe shook her head.
"You're soaked and shivering, take the coat." Victoria's stare leaves no room for argument.
The coat was warm and dry, a stark contrast to the omega's cold and wet clothes.
"Thank you"
Victoria let out a hum of acknowledgement.
"I don't want us to fight." Victoria started. "Me and Casey, we just want you to be safe. And maybe-"
"I know, I understand." Phoebe cut her off. "I've done my thinking. And I tried putting myself in Marc's shoes, and yours too. I'm sorry for leaving" She mumbled the last bit.
They was a heavy silence, only the sound of rain and passing cars could be heard. Then, a sudden crash of thunder rolled across the sky, making Phoebe flinch. Victoria instinctively pulled Phoebe closer, wrapping her arms tightly around her omega.
"Let's go home."
—
Cassandra rushed over as soon as she hear the door open. Her eyes widened in concern as she took in her omega's form. "Phoebe, where have you been? You're drenched!" she exclaimed, her hands moving quickly to check Phoebe's temperature before wrapping her in a warm embrace. " You need to get out of those wet clothes. I got a warm bath ready for you" Casey's voice gentle but firm.
Casey then turned to Victoria, her brow furrowing in concern. "Where did you find her?"
Victoria sighed, her clothes slightly wet as she set her umbrella aside. "I found her in the park. She was waiting under a tree waiting for the rain to end"
"I'm glad you're okay," Casey took Phoebe's face between her hands, wiping some droplets of rain on her cheeks. "We were worried. Now go take a bath or you'll get a fever"
—
When Phoebe emerged from the bathroom, wrapped in a fluffy bathrobe, she made her way to the dining room. Sounds of dishes clinking and the aroma of food filled the room. Victoria was already seated at the table, sipping a steaming cup of tea, while Casey was placing bowls of creamy and warm soup on the table.
Victoria looked up and noticed Phoebe's presence. She held out her cup to Phoebe. "Here, have some tea," she said softly, "It'll help you feel better."
Phoebe accepted the tea, the warmth of the cup spreading through her fingers.
They ate in silence. Phoebe kept her gaze fixed on her food. Her head was full of thoughts, the weight of what she wanted to say making her heart beat louder than usual. Victoria and Cassandra exchanged glances now and then, their concern for the omega evident on their faces. Still, neither of them spoke, leaving quite heavy tension in the room.
Once they're done eating and the table was cleared, Phoebe took a deep breath.
"I need to tell you something," Phoebe said, one would think her voice is steady, but her alphas caught the slight shake of her voice.
Cassandra leaned forward slightly, "What is it sweetheart?" she asked.
"Whatever it is, you can tell us," Victoria added.
Phoebe felt the weight of the moment pressing down on her. She took a deep breath, then mentally shrugged. Let's just get this over with, she thought.
"I want you both to mark me."
