The warm sunlight filtered through the curtains as Palki sat on the edge of the bed, stretching her legs carefully. Shaurya had been insistent that she rest, but Palki was determined to regain her strength. She glanced around their room, feeling a sense of comfort in the space they shared. Shaurya had been incredibly attentive, constantly checking on her, but she was eager to prove that she was getting better.
“Are you sure you’re okay to go downstairs?” Shaurya asked, concern etched in his voice as he helped Palki to her feet.
"I’m fine, Shaurya. I need to move around, and besides, it’ll be nice to spend time with everyone,” Palki replied with a reassuring smile.
Together, they made their way downstairs, where the family was gathered in the living room. Palki noticed the plate of cookies on the table and immediately picked it up, determined to serve everyone. She walked around, offering cookies, feeling a sense of normalcy returning.
When she reached Preeta, Palki offered her a cookie with a smile. “Would you like one, Maa?”
Preeta hesitated, her eyes filled with warmth. “My sugar level is a bit high, dear,” she replied softly.
Palki nodded understandingly but playfully added, “You can have just one, Maa.”
As Palki leaned forward to offer the cookie, Karan and Preeta shared a knowing glance before giving her a gentle nudge. The next moment, Palki lost her balance and fell right into Shaurya’s lap. The room erupted in laughter, and Palki’s cheeks flushed with embarrassment. Shaurya, though slightly startled, instinctively wrapped his arms around her to steady her.
“I’ll come in a minute,” Shaurya mumbled, his voice a mix of embarrassment and affection. He quickly helped Palki to her feet, and she could see the hint of a smile playing on his lips.
Rajveer and Kavya, always the playful duo, couldn’t resist teasing. “Bhai, why don’t you sit with Bhabhi? Where are you going?” Rajveer quipped, winking at Shaurya.
Palki and Shaurya exchanged an awkward glance, and though Shaurya tried to play it cool, he couldn’t hide the blush that crept up his neck.
A little while later, Preeta gathered everyone’s attention. “I’ve called the decorators for Diwali,” she announced.
Palki, eager to contribute, immediately offered, “Maa, I’d like to do the arrangements myself.”
Preeta looked at her with concern, “But you’re still recovering, dear. Your dad will worry.”
Karan, hearing this, chimed in with a soft smile, “If Palki says she’s fine, then I have no problem.”
Everyone smiled at Karan’s approval, but Shaurya couldn’t help but look at Palki with a mix of disbelief and concern. Rajveer, catching his brother’s expression, gave him a reassuring smile.
Later, back in their room, Shaurya couldn’t hold back his worry. “Palki, how will you manage everything? You’re still so weak. You never listen to me,” he said, his tone gentle but firm.
Palki placed a calming hand on his arm. “Shaurya, I’ll be fine. I promise I’ll take care of myself and rest if I get tired.”
Shaurya sighed, running a hand through his hair. “Okay, but you better keep that promise. I don’t want you overexerting yourself.”
Palki smiled and nodded, leaning up to kiss his cheek. “I promise.”
The next day, Palki immersed herself in the Diwali preparations. As she began cleaning the temple and arranging decorations, her eyes fell on a box of Mirchi lights. Suddenly, a wave of emotion hit her, and she found herself tearing up. The lights reminded her of her father, who was out of town for work. Every year, they had decorated the house together, and her father always insisted that she arrange the Mirchi lights, even though he knew how to do it himself. It was his way of making her feel special.
Overwhelmed by the memory, Palki sat down and began to cry softly, missing her father terribly. Just then, Shaurya entered the room, his heart skipping a beat when he saw her tears.
“Palki, what’s wrong? Why are you crying?” he asked, rushing to her side. He gently guided her to the sofa, sitting beside her with a look of panic and concern.
Through her tears, Palki explained, “I’m just missing my father. He always helped me with these lights, even though he knew how to arrange them. He’d always say that without me, there would be no Diwali, no Mirchi lights.”
Shaurya’s heart ached hearing her words. Without a second thought, he pulled her into a tight hug, cradling her head against his chest. “Shhh, it’s okay. I don’t like it when you cry. I want to see you smile,” he whispered, his voice soothing.
He then made a silly face and a hand gesture to make her smile, and to his relief, Palki let out a small laugh through her tears. Shaurya smiled, pleased that he could bring back her smile, even if just for a moment.
That evening, Shaurya came running into the room, a box of Mirchi lights in his hand. “Palki, can you help me with these? I don’t know how to arrange them,” he said, his tone a mix of urgency and playfulness.
Palki looked at him, touched by his gesture. She realized that Shaurya was doing this just to make her feel special, just like her father used to. She smiled warmly at him, her heart swelling with love.
As they began arranging the lights together, they laughed and joked, the atmosphere filled with warmth and affection. Palki felt a deep connection with Shaurya in that moment, appreciating how much he cared for her.
However, not everyone was pleased with the blossoming bond between Shaurya and Palki. Kriti , who had been watching from a distance, clenched her fists in anger. She was determined to break their relationship and take Shaurya away from Palki, no matter the cost.
In her twisted mind, she concocted a plan to make Shaurya jealous by being overly romantic with a guy she knew Shaurya couldn’t stand. And she would make sure to flaunt it at the upcoming Diwali party.
