~ Panic
A/N: Hey guys this is my first person POV attempt.. let me know if you like it this way better. I think I'm gonna stick to third though.
*Trigger warning: mentions of assault, abuse, vomit, and severe panic attack*
It is now the Saturday after the first full week of class and I'm exhausted. My mind has yet to grow used to the hundreds of intentions I encounter everyday and my poor sleeping habits only help lessen my energy.
I truly would not have survived this week without Dorcas and Remus. I haven't known either of them for even a month but I feel as if I've known them my whole life. I'm aware that nothing about my life is normal but when I'm with them I don't feel so out of place. There eyes don't look at me as if I'm an alien like every other person in this school.
"Kendra you've been staring at the same page for the last fifteen minutes."
At the sound of my name, I snap out of my thoughts and meet the worried gaze of Remus Lupin.
Though it is Saturday, we choose to sit in a quiet corner of the library and read together. James said that we are boring, but Remus told me he has yet to learn to read chapter books like us.
"Ermm yeah, lost in thought I guess." I respond. This seems to happen too often. I feel swirls of guilt build in me as I see worry grow behind Remus's eyes. Its something I always seem to find lingering in the back of his mind.
"Is Gatsby not entertaining you?" He asks with faux disappointment. As if I hadn't told him yesterday it was my favorite book that I've ever read so far. The wolfish boy had been lending me some of his old books since he learned of my fascination to read.
"You know it is Remus, I just got a busy mind as usual." I say softly.
He just gives me a weak smile as he hums in agreement. Though the worry in his mind doesn't dissipate.
At the other end of the room, I hear the loud bang of the library door hitting the wall. The aggressive whisper-scolding from the librarian quickly follows.
"Oh yes I'm sorry," the out-of-breath sounding voice of Dorcas Meadows replies.
I perk up at the sound of her voice and looked towards Remus questioningly. He had told me that she was at the lake with Lily painting landscapes this afternoon. But, by the tilt of his head and drawn eyebrows, he was equally confused by her appearence. Dorcas was a very spontaneous person, so maybe she had changed her mind about her plans for the day.
I could see the intricate ends of her swooshing braids before I could see the rest of her when she rounded the end of the long bookcase that hid our designated table in the back.
In her arms was her splotchy painters apron that look like it was a bit wet with paint that had yet to dry. Why didn't she just use a tidying spell I wondered.
I hardly had time to open my mouth to great her before she was on me.
"Kendra Potter, when were you going to tell me about your little potions partner?!" She whispered yelled at me. Dorcas was probably trying to kept her voice down to appease the Liberian but failing without a doubt.
At the mention of Regulus my cheeks heated immediately. I hadn't told her or anyone for that matter, and for this exact reason.
"W-What do you mean, there is really nothing to tell." I stuttered out trying to kept my fluster to myself by subtly holding my face in my hands, covering my cheeks.
