Boy Out Of Water

I am still at the lake, sitting near the edge with my feet in the clear blue water.

I take notice of how blue the water is, how green the grass is, how brown the dirt is...

It's as if I sprung into a cartoon.

With that said, my mind has been racing non-stop with questions.

Why am I here?

What is this place?

Is this a dream?

The rainbow disk resting next to me answers the last one. This is definitely no dream. I notice that the disk has stopped glowing, which leads me to believe this device is some sort of key.

I've seen a lot of movies.

Anyway, the disk seems to have fulfilled its destiny, since no matter how I touch it, it doesn't seem to activate. I give up and lay back against the soft green grass.

Usually, in a situation like this, most people would be freaking out or screaming bloody murder. I mean, who gets flung into another dimension like this and finds it normal? But me, my brain works a bit differently. I tend to react in a more diplomatic way whenever a conflict arises.

If a bully at school were to pick on me, I'd try to study their personality and talk to them.

If a wild animal were to approach me, I'd show that I'm not a threat by offering them food.

In this case, now that I've stumbled into another dimension, the only thing I can do is to make the most of my situation. Considering I could have landed anywhere, this lake isn't a terrible place to get trapped in. As I feel the lush grass in between my fingers and toes, my body relaxes, and I find myself smiling on purpose. Most of my life has been spent in misery, with a mother who doesn't love me and no friends to turn to. I have found little in my life to feel happy about... but now that I'm here, basking underneath these golden rays... life couldn't be better. I find myself smiling even more, considering I don't have to return to school anytime soon.

No more cramming into those tight classrooms. No more getting my personal space invaded by Mr. Jock. No more waking up at early hours. This truly is a paradise.

Listening to these beautiful sounds I've only ever heard through the nature channel; it soothes me enough to feel drowsy. I emit a great yawn as I let my eyes close, and I... fall asleep... to the noises of... na- {snores}

----

(?): Excuse me? You think you could wake up? You're kinda freaking me out here.

I feel someone's shoe poke me in the side and I immediately spring up. My eyes take a while to open since I had the best rest in ages. But when I do manage to gather my bearings, I find myself staring at a green-haired individual.

Me: Uh... Hey there.

(?): Oh, thank goodness. I thought you'd passed out or something. Are you feeling alright?
