Investigation

I consider myself to be a bright young man, and my intelligence has never failed me before. For instance, those puzzles on the backs of cereal boxes, or those crossword puzzles in the newspaper. But I have never gone on a real investigation before. That's why I'm nervous as to what I'm about to find. Perhaps it's something the others don't want me to see. However, Green trusted me with his most valuable secret, so it's not like he has anything else to hide. Admittedly, I really want to know who he's talking about. Green never said the girl's name, so now I have a reason for this.

I find myself at the foot of the gray hallway, staring into the darkness that used to be filled with light. I also take note of the rows of bushes on either side, decayed and void of life. As I tread deeper into the room, my footsteps echo off the walls, but otherwise it is silent. I walk up to one of the bushes and pluck a dead leaf. I think about crushing it, but what good would it do? I take a deep sigh as I let the leaf fall to the ground.

A dreadful sensation crawls up my spine as I draw closer to the open door, the darkness inviting me. I stand in front of it, my eyes trying to get any glimpse of what's inside, but the black is too strong. Knowing I can't back out now, I mentally prepare myself. On the one hand, the room could be empty and this would all be a waste of time. On the other, the room has been kept the same all this time and the girl's belongings still remain. Weighing my options, I lock in and make my way inside.

The second I enter the room, I feel chills, like someone is watching me. I would like to say it's the girl's spirit, but with my luck I would end up getting possessed. I start feeling the walls, hoping to grab ahold of any sort of light switch. It's at this moment I wish I still had that disk, because I haven't a single source of light, and I'm starting to feel terrified. I grow farther from the doorway, my hands scanning the walls until I feel something warm and fleshy. Red flags go off in my head, and when I try to pull away, something GRABS my hand.

I scream and fly back, hitting the wall behind me, which in turn, activates the light switch that was there the whole time. I immediately race out of the room, wondering if this entity is on my ass, but as I look around, there's no one. I peer inside and find that it's empty. But that can't be. I KNOW I felt something grab me. And now I'm thinking I should just drop this whole idea and go back. If vanishing fleshy spirits exist in this room, I do not want to be apart of it.

But do you ever get this feeling that you're so terrified by something... that you can't help but feel fascinated by it? Like you know it's bad, but your curiosity is so much stronger than your common sense, so you have no choice but to comply? That's what I'm feeling right now. This could be where my life ends and I get eaten by a demon, but my brain insists I go back in that room and check it out. I suppose this is partially my own fault. Back on Earth, my favorite videos to watch were analog horror. But the thing is, those were fictional.

THIS IS NOT.

I gather my bearings and I prepare myself yet again. This is for the mystery. I will not be satisfied unless I figure this out. I take a breath and head inside the room for the second time. With the lights on, I can actually see what's going down. But what I see is not what I expected.

The entire room is covered in black.

The broken furniture... the ripped out floor... the piles of rubble... the bed ripped to hell...

This used to be someone's ROOM...

But why is it like this...?

What could have CAUSED this...?

{OOF}

I trip over a piece of rubble, like a genius, and hit the floor. Before I can scorn myself, I see something shining in the distance. I crawl over to this mysterious object and upon closer inspection, it's a picture frame... with the bottom half of a photo inside. Observing it, I find that it is of a person, or Colortopian, if you will. Due to the lack of light, I am unable to tell what color the figure is wearing, but I can confirm it is a girl, due to the slim waist and curves on her hips.
