"Bhai, stop staring at her. You look creepy. What if she gets scared and decides not to marry you?, Kabhi tu kavara na rah jaaye" Jai whispered, pulling me back to reality. I tore my eyes away from her and glanced at Jai, catching his smirk. With an eye roll, I shifted my gaze to the sir, who was talking about something.
A sigh slipped from my lips, frustration grew inside me. We made eye contact only seven times in the entire fucking hour. I longed to hear her voice, sweet as honey, and imagined how heavenly my name would sound coming from her pretty mouth.
Ma’am, her mother and sir's wife, called out her name, prompting her to head off to another part of the house, likely the kitchen.
After a while, she returned with her hands tucked behind her back, a habit of hers that I found irresistibly cute. She leaned in and whispered something to Sir, her voice just loud enough for me to hear, “Dad, dinner is ready, and Maa is calling everyone.”
I chuckled quietly, the sound lost amidst the room's conversations. She was so shy to announce it infront us.
Hearing her, sir turned to us and announced, "Dinner is ready." He stood up and added, "Let's go and have it." We followed him from the living area to the kitchen.
As I settled into my chair, I watched Ma’am and Jaanvi preparing to serve us dinner. Not liking the idea, I politely intervened, "Please, we can serve ourselves, Ma’am. I’d like to request that you both sit and have dinner with us."
"Yes, I agree," Abhay chimed in, while Aayansh and Jai both nodded in agreement.
We heard Sir chuckle, drawing everyone's attention to him. He smiled and said, “Preya, I think Vikrant is right. They can serve themselves. Besides, they aren't just guests, they're family.” His words filled my chest with a quiet pride.
I watched them settle into their seats, my heart soaring to cloud nine when I saw Jaanvi sitting opposite to my seat.
My delusional reverie broke as a deep voice echoed from the kitchen entry, "Hello everybody." Turning my head, I saw Abhimanyu, her brother who is just a year older than me.
He’s a good-hearted guy with an introverted nature, a brother who loves Jaanvi more than anything and fulfills her every wish. Jaanvi is the apple of his eye; he’s always there for her, taking her out whenever she feels low. He’s a brother who’s more like a best friend, always by her side.
“Nice to meet you guys!” he greeted with a warm smile. I stood up from my seat to shake his hand, and the others followed suit.I settled back into my seat and watched him taking a seat next to Jaanvi.
"So, what's your profession?" he asked while filling his mouth with food.
"I'm a bike engineer," Jai replied.
"Criminal lawyer," Abhay said next.
"COO of Rathore Co.," Aayansh chimed in.
Finally, I responded, "CEO of TechWave.”
