While the others scoured the nearby buildings, my eyes kept drifting back to the ground beneath my feet. My instincts wouldn’t let me walk away, even though I knew Abhimanyu and the men were being thorough in their search. I trusted them to search every corner, every crevice. They would cover the ground, but something kept me here, in this very spot. It was like a whisper in the back of my mind, a constant pull that wouldn’t let go.
As we reached the ground, we sensed a car following us. It was Sir. Despite our efforts to keep him at home, he had come here to search for her, his daughter, the apple of his eye. He knew that staying at home wouldn’t ease his anxiety, he had to be here, searching, determined to find her himself.
Jaanvi had to be close. I couldn’t explain it, but it was there, deep in my bones, louder than any logic or reason. She was here.
Ignoring the voices in my head that told me to move, to do something but I planted myself firmly where I stood. I scanned the ground again, my eyes searching for something I might have missed.
I had to trust my instincts. She was here, I could feel it. The thought of her being anywhere else felt wrong. This was where I would find her. And I wasn’t leaving until I did.
I took a deep breath and scanned the area again, my eyes moving over every detail, every shadow that stretched across the ground. The van sat there, its doors slightly ajar, almost taunting me with its emptiness.
I moved closer to the van, my footsteps careful, each step echoing in the silence. Inside, I found her baby pink college bag tossed carelessly on the floor. My heart clenched at the sight. There were two more bags beside it, but it was hers that caught my attention.
But she was nowhere in sight. I closed my eyes for a moment, fighting the frustration building inside me. I clenched my fists, trying to stay calm, trying to think. If she wasn’t in the van, then where could she be?
There had to be something I was missing, something here, something I hadn’t yet seen.
Suddenly, the sound of a car speeding into the ground pulled me out of my thoughts. My eyebrows furrowed as I recognized the car.
Aayansh's car
He slammed on the brakes, the tires screeching to a halt. He stepped out quickly, his usually composed demeanour replaced by something frantic. His hair was dishevelled, sticking out at odd angles, and his clothes were rumpled, as if he had barely managed to throw them on in a rush. He looked around, his chest rising and falling with deep breaths, his face flushed with urgency.
He walked towards me with long strides, and just from his appearance, I could tell he had come here in a hurry, his worry etched clearly on his face.
