Emma's POV
I woke up to the soft hum of the city outside my window, the morning light filtering in through the curtains, saturdays in the city were my favorite quiet, peaceful, with none of the usual rush that filled the weekdays
Today, though, my mind wasn't on the stillness or the way the sunlight cast warm patterns on the floor It was on Rebecca
The last two days had been a blur of emotions, our date had gone better than I ever could have hoped for there was laughter, real conversation, and a sense of connection that I hadn't felt in a long time
I couldn't stop thinking about the way she had looked at me during dinner, her eyes soft and open in a way I wasn't used to seeing, there was a warmth between us that hadn't been there before, something more genuine and vulnerable
I had caught myself smiling at random moments, remembering the way she had kissed my cheek before saying goodnight It had been such a small thing, but it lingered in my mind, a promise of something more
Just as I was about to get up and start my day, my phone buzzed on the nightstand Rebecca's name lit up the screen, and my heart skipped a beat
"Rebecca?" I answered, trying to keep my voice steady, though I was already smiling.
"Hey," she said, her tone casual but with that same underlying warmth that I'd come to crave. "I was wondering if you were free today I thought maybe we could spend some time together. Outside of work, no pressure"
Her words made me laugh softly. No pressure? It was hard to imagine a day with Rebecca that didn't involve at least a little pressure, given everything we'd been through, but there was something different about this It felt easy, like a real chance to just be ourselves without the weight of the office looming over us
"No pressure, huh? I like the sound of that, what did you have in mind?" I asked, leaning back against the pillows
"I was thinking we could just take a day to relax. Go for a walk, get some lunch, maybe visit that new gallery downtown if you're interested?"
The idea of spending the day with her, just the two of us, without the constraints of our professional roles sounded perfect. "That sounds perfect," I said. "I could use a break from everything."
"Great. I'll pick you up in an hour?" she offered, and I could hear the hope in her voice.
"Sounds good. See you then."
When I hung up the phone, I felt a warmth spread through me I wasn't sure what today would bring, but I was excited to find out
An hour later, I was waiting outside my building when Rebecca pulled up, the weather was perfect warm but not too hot, with a light breeze that carried the scent of freshly bloomed flowers from the nearby park
As I got into the car, Rebecca smiled at me, and that same flutter of anticipation I had felt earlier returned
"Hey," she said, her voice soft, as if she were testing the waters between us
"Hey," I echoed, feeling a little more at ease now that we were together
We started with a walk through the park, the morning air was fresh and the park was peaceful, with only a few joggers and dog walkers passing by
We walked side by side, our arms occasionally brushing against each other there was a comfortable silence between us, the kind that didn't need to be filled with words
Rebecca seemed different today more relaxed, more open, she wasn't the polished, composed version of herself that I usually saw at the office
She was just... Rebecca. And I liked this version of her I liked her a lot
