"No." Leo said. "Absolutely fricking not."
"C'mon, Leo," I said, with all the patience I could muster.
"Man, I need to go to college, you know. And I'm not getting kicked out of high school in junior year along with you."
"No one will catch you Leo, I swear."
He snorted. "No way, no how, no thank you. Go away and lemme play," he said, going back to his Super Smash Bros game.
I sighed. "Leo, if you help me- I'll get you that $300 tool kit you've been saving up for."
Bingo. He looked up. "I'm listening..."
"You know you'll never be able to save up, and if you just do this tiny thing for me-" he snorted at the word tiny, but I ignored him and ploughed on"- tiny thing which I know is a piece of cake for you, I'll also throw in a lifetime supply of Fonzies." My mom stocked up on that stuff because of my stepdad. I didn't think much of them, but Leo had an addiction.
"You got a deal, man," Leo said, jumping off the student lounge sofa to shake my hand. "But if I get caught-"
"I'll take full responsibility, say I blackmailed you into doing it with a picture I got of you at a 5th grade birthday party, and you'll still get your stuff," I said with a roll of my eyes. I had come prepared for this- I knew convincing Leo was the most tiring thing in the world sometimes.
He seemed satisfied, and nodded. "When do you want me to, then?"
"Um, as soon as possible?" I hesitated. "Maybe... like, right now? You're not really doing anything important, so.."
He started to argue, but I held up a pack of Fonzies, and he thought better of it. "Gimme that," he said, grabbing at the bag eagerly. I let him have it, and he ran off to the school office. I knew if anyone could distract the staff and quickly hack into the cams to find what I needed, he could.
He came running back half an hour later, panting. "Man, I barely got away! So, anyway, the licence plate you wanted is-"
"Hold up," I said, putting a finger to my lips. We didn't need anyone who wasn't involved to hear this. I opened a new note on my phone, and handed it to him. He typed in the number, then handed it back to me, shuffling from one foot to the other. "So..."
"You'll get your tool kit by Friday, Leo," I said, rolling my eyes and showing him the order I placed. "And I'll bring your box of Fonzies tomorrow."
He gave a whoop and then hopped back to his game. Meanwhile, I rushed into a secluded area of the school and opened the note. I read the plate number, and my heart rushed as I made a few calls. Finally, we were getting somewhere.
"I'm coming, Annabeth," I muttered.
