Annabeth

**

Me and Katie waited anxiously as Rachel approached the door.

When Rachel suggested Katie be part of our "rescue" team, I was a bit skeptical at first. Katie had never seemed like the type for a dangerous mission, and I wasn't sure how well she could handle high-stress situations. But, she did not disappoint. She actually created the plan on how we would break into the house, and although it was reckless and dangerous, it was the best way to get the job done. So now, here we were, with me holding my breath and trying to calm myself down.

One of the gang members opened the door- sheesh, they don't even bother to lay low- and looked at Rachel, confused. Rachel gave him a seductive smile and said, "Hi, I'm really lonely... mind if I come in?"

The gang member smirked at her, and opened the door further. "I also got hurt on my hand... do you think you can fix it?" Rachel said, winking at him.

She held her hand up to his face and got close. As he leaned down to look at it, she kneed him hard in the groin. He let out a yell, and crumpled to the ground. Rachel gave us a thumbs up, and ran undercover between the bushes we were hiding in. Meanwhile, we started to climb the side of the house using a handy grappling set that I bought a few years ago, but never bothered to use. Just as I'd thought, the windows were all open, supposedly to let in "fresh air"- Luke was crazy about fresh air for some reason, although his brain is so corrupted it would've hardly made a difference. I grinned, and threw the hook through the open window and hooked it onto something behind the frame.

Rachel flashed her light at me, signalling that the gang was now at the scene of commotion she caused, then ran out of there to get the cops. Meanwhile, I started to climb. Katie would remain on the bottom as a lookout, her flashlight ready and her text messages app open. I was extremely nervous, I admit, having to do this part alone. I continued to climb, trying to ignore my brain, which was screaming things at me along the lines of Are you stupid? You can't do this alone! You're weak! What makes you think someone like you can handle this?

I climbed through the window and quietly dropped onto the floor. The room was pleasant enough, with a bed, a dresser and a study desk with a laptop on top. Just to test my luck, I searched the room all around for any sign of the people I was trying to save. As I expected, they were not here. I walked deeper into the house.

After searching every room, quietly and quickly hiding whenever I heard someone approaching, I sighed in frustration and went into the closet next to me to think. Was I wrong? Were they not here?

Suddenly, my hand hit against a switch, and I muffled a scream as I dropped down, hitting something hard and crumpling into a heap. I slowly got up, and flexed my arm. It was fractured. Thankfully, I wasn't hurt on my head, which took the most impact. I gingerly stood up, wincing in pain and trying to keep the gasps to a minimum, and looked up. Above me, I saw the same coats that were hanging in the closet, and I had just fallen onto a metal staircase. Which meant... I had just discovered a secret passage in the house.

I quickly rushed down the stairs, making my footsteps as quiet as possible, and trying to ignore the burning pain in my right arm. I walked into a dark room, and gingerly wondered if I should dare to turn my flashlight on. Well, if Luke was here, he definitely would've heard me falling and walking down those stairs. I sighed. Here goes nothing.

I put my thumb over the button, and after a few moments of hesitation, I pressed it, prepared for the worst. The sight that met my eyes made me want to weep in joy.

Percy was lying on the rough floor, with all his cousins and Leo and Beckendorf, all with bound hands. They were all sleeping. Jason looked quite peaceful, like his dream blocked out their surroundings and everything that had happened, but Thalia and Nico were sleeping quite fitfully. I noticed that their meal trays were only half-eaten, probably because of the suspicion that they were drugged. Tears filled my eyes and I quickly tapped out a message to Katie, then rushed over to Percy.

I cupped his face in my hands and cried, hugging him. He awoke and sat up groggily, and took a second to stare at me. Recognition flickered in his eyes, and he smiled. "Annabeth."

Oh gods, he was so weak. Hatred for Luke filled my heart, but first I had to get everyone out of here before dealing with him. I quickly undid their hands and roused the others, and then had a texting marathon with Rachel and Katie, letting them know of the situation and trying to form a plan. After a few minutes, I bought everyone to attention. Percy gave me a smile which made my heart flutter, and I tried to ignore the red blush creeping up my cheeks as I turned to everyone.

"So, guys, here's what we're going to do. The trapdoor I came through, I'm going to take you up there one by one. Once we're all there, Katie will create a commotion on the other side of the house and we'll all split up. All the windows are open, just make sure you go to the right side and into any room and pick a window to crawl through. Katie attached rope ladders to all of them a few minutes ago."

Thalia nodded and started to say something, but then a sound made us all stop.

Footsteps approached behind us, and my heart raced with fear. I heard them stop directly behind us. Fearing what I was about to see, I slowly turned around, my breath unsteady.
