Percy's POV

Annabeth was a completely changed person. It was crazy. She was now the life and soul of the school, had friends who were by her side all the time, and she seemed unable to believe that this was her life now.

Rachel and Annabeth would always roam the halls together, arm in arm, like they were best friends since forever. The rest of the school was in shock after hearing what Annabeth had been through, but soon realized that she didn't want their pity, so they stopped giving her sympathetic looks and instead made it feel appreciated that she was back, the way she was before she got with him.

I, on the other hand, was getting more nervous each day. It was impossible to ignore how I felt for Annabeth, but I didn't think it was right to make an advance just when she got out of an abusive relationship. I knew I had to build her trust up first, but it would probably take months before she was ready to start something new with someone again, and my patience was driving me crazy.

We hung out a lot together. Sometimes we just sat beside each other in silence, but it wasn't the awkward kind- it was the kind that was peaceful, just enjoying each other's company in the silence.

Rachel kept dropping heavy hints at me that Annabeth was interested, and my friends were constantly bugging me to ask her out. Yet, I didn't know if I could handle being rejected by the only girl which I''d truly ever loved. This was bigger than just a crush- I was constantly wondering about her, day and night, and being with her calmed my crazy mess of thoughts down.

I was filling my water bottle at the fountain, when Annabeth, who had just appeared by my side, accidentally spilled some of the water from her open bottle on me.

"Oops, sorry," she said, laughing, handing me napkins and involuntarily placing her hand on my shoulder. Sparks flew through me, and she immediately drew her hand back, her face bright red. I'm sure I was looking the same.

Only then I realized the position we were in- she was leaning against the wall next to the fountain, and I was right in front of her. We were too close. Just a few more inches closer and my lips would be on hers...

Her eyes ran over me, as a blush creeped on her cheeks.God, she looked so tempting-

I cleared my throat and quickly drew back. Remember, don't rush her. She looked almost disappointed as I grabbed my water bottle, which had fallen on the ground.

"What?" I said, when I caught her looking at me aggressively. She shook her head, biting her lip, which made my gaze involuntarily go towards her plump lips.

What is wrong with me?

I sneaked a peek at her, only to find her already looking back at me. My stomach flipped. I twisted the cap of my water bottle shut and turned to her. "Can I take you somewhere?"
