Red's POV

I still remember the day I saved my mom, Bridget, from that prank that could've turned her evil and killed Cinderella. Chloe and I had used the pocket watch to travel back in time, and now we were back in our own timeline. But something was different.

As we appeared, Uma was about to make a speech, but my mom stood up, interrupting her. My heart skipped a beat as our eyes met. I searched for any sign of darkness in her, but she looked...different. She wore a pink and white gown, her red hair shining in the light.

Tears pricked at the corners of my eyes as she started singing "Life is Sweeter". Her voice was like honey, warm and soothing. She walked towards me, her eyes locked on mine, and I felt my heart overflow with emotion.

"Mom?" I whispered, my voice trembling.

She opened her arms, and I rushed into them, hugging her tightly. I felt like I was home.

I looked up at my mom, Bridget, as she handed me the magic cards. "I want you to have these, sweetie," she said.

"But, Mom, won't you need them?" I asked, feeling a bit confused.

My mom smiled and hugged me. "I want you to have them, Red. I think they'll be safer with you."

Just then, Uma's voice echoed through the hall, "Ladies and gentlemen, the event is now over. Parents, please make your way to the exit. Tomorrow is the first day of school, and we want to give the students time to settle in."

I felt a pang of sadness, not wanting my mom to leave. I hugged her tightly, trying to hold back tears. "I don't want you to go, Mom!"

My mom stroked my hair and whispered, "Be a good girl, Red. Be kind and sweet. I'll be back to visit soon."

I nodded, trying to be brave. My mom kissed me one last time and got into the car. I watched as she drove away, feeling a little lost and alone.

I stood there for a moment, clutching the magic cards and trying to process my emotions. Then, I took a deep breath and turned to head back to Chloe.

Chloe's POV:

---

I watched as Red's mom, Bridget, stood up, interrupting Uma's speech. Red's eyes were fixed on her, searching for something. I followed her gaze, and my heart swelled with emotion.

Bridget looked...changed. Her pink and white gown shimmered in the light, and her red hair cascaded down her back. She sang "Life is Sweeter" with a voice that was like music to my ears.

Red's eyes welled up with tears as she hugged her mom tightly. I felt a lump form in my throat, seeing the raw emotion between them.

I smiled, feeling happy for Red, but also a little left out. I was glad I could share this moment with her, though.

I wanted to find my own mom, Cinderella, and spend some time with her before she left.

I tilted my head, scanning the crowd for a glimpse of my mom's familiar sparkling blue ball gown. Ah, there she was! I waved excitedly and made my way through the throng of people.

When I reached my mom, we hugged each other tightly, savoring the moment. She smelled like roses and fairy dust, just like always. But all too soon, she pulled back and said, "I have to go, sweetie. I love you, and I want you to be a good girl and make me proud."

I nodded, feeling a lump in my throat. I didn't want her to leave! But I knew she had to go back to the kingdom.

We hugged each other again, and I whispered, "Tell Dad I said hi, and give Chad a hug from me too."

My mom smiled and nodded, her eyes shining with tears. "I will, sweetie. I love you."

Then she sat down in the carriage, her glass slipper peeking out from under her gown. I watched as she waved goodbye and the carriage pulled away, feeling a mix of emotions.

As I watched my mom's carriage disappear into the distance, I saw Red walking towards me. I smiled and approached her, feeling a sense of camaraderie.

We stood there for a moment, not knowing what to say. The silence was comfortable, but I finally broke it.

"I'm really happy for you, Red," I said, smiling genuinely.

Red smiled back and thanked me. "I'm going to miss my mom too," she said, her eyes clouding over.

I nodded in understanding. "I'll miss my mom, and everyone here. This timeline, it feels like a different world."

Red nodded, and we stood there for another moment, enjoying each other's company.

"I'm glad we met, Red," I said finally.

"Me too, Chloe," Red replied, smiling.

And with that, we shared a heartfelt hug, both of us knowing that our lives were about to change in ways we couldn't yet imagine.

"Hey, we should go inside," I said, nodding towards the school building.

Red nodded in agreement, and we both turned to head in the opposite direction, away from the crowd and the carriages.

As we walked, the silence between us was comfortable, like we were both lost in our own thoughts. I couldn't help but think about my mom and how much I would miss her. I wondered what lay ahead for me in this new school, and whether I would make new friends.

Red seemed lost in thought too, her eyes fixed on the ground as we walked. I wondered what she was thinking about - her mom, her new life here, or something else entirely.

We reached the entrance of the school, and I pushed open the door, gesturing for Red to go inside first. She smiled slightly and stepped through the doorway, and I followed close behind.

As we entered the Great Hall, we were immediately swept up in a sea of students chatting and laughing. We made our way through the crowd and joined the queue of students waiting to receive their class schedules and room assignments.

The line inched forward slowly, and Red and I exchanged occasional glances, still not saying much. I couldn't help but notice the excitement and nervousness radiating from the other students.

Finally, after what felt like an eternity, we reached the front of the queue. A friendly-looking teacher greeted us and handed us each a parchment with our schedules and room assignments.

As we took our parchments and stepped aside to examine them, our eyes widened in surprise. "Room 314?" we exclaimed in unison, looking at each other in delight.

We were roommates! I couldn't believe it. Out of all the students here, I had ended up with Red, the girl I had just met and felt an instant connection with.

Red grinned, and I smiled back, feeling a sense of excitement and camaraderie.
