Red's POV
A week had passed since the awkward conversation in the cafeteria. I'd successfully avoided Chloe, focusing on schoolwork and archery.
Hood had convinced me to join the school's archery club, saying it would be "exactly what I need." The precision and focus required had become a welcome escape.
But whenever I saw Chloe, Kaida was always by her side. Their laughter and whispers fueled my growing unease.
Principal Uma's announcement over the school's PA system provided a welcome distraction.
"Attention students, due to the upcoming Teacher's Development Day, we will have a two-day holiday. Enjoy your break!"
I walked back to my dorm, lost in thought. No plans for the holiday, just a blank slate.
As I entered my room, I noticed Chloe sitting on her bed, laptop open.
We exchanged a brief glance, the tension between us palpable.
"Hey," Chloe said softly.
"Hey," I replied, dropping my bag onto the floor.
The silence that followed was oppressive.
I began to wonder if this holiday would be a blessing or a curse.
The silence between us was deafening until a knock on the door broke the tension. Chloe opened it, revealing Kaida's bright smile.
Kaida bounced into the room, enthusiasm radiating from every pore. "Chloe! I've missed you so much!"
Chloe laughed, and they shared a warm hug. "I've missed you too, Kaida."
As they chatted, Kaida asked, "Hey, want to grab dinner with me tonight? I found this amazing new restaurant."
Chloe glanced at me briefly before responding, "Sure, I don't have much planned."
My gaze dropped to my phone, the screen glowing with notifications from Auradon's social media app. I'd downloaded it when I arrived.
A pang of disappointment settled in my chest, but I remained silent.
Kaida beamed. "Awesome! I'll pick you up at 6?"
Chloe nodded, and Kaida skipped out of the room, already typing away on her phone.
The door closed, and Chloe turned to me. Our eyes met, but I quickly looked away, focusing on my phone.
The silence returned, heavier than before.

Chloe's POV
As I opened the door for Kaida, a rush of excitement washed over me. Her bubbly personality was contagious, and I needed a distraction from the tension between Red and me.
"Chloe! I've missed you so much!" Kaida exclaimed, sweeping me into a hug.
I laughed, feeling a sense of normalcy return. "I've missed you too, Kaida."
As we chatted, Kaida invited me to dinner. I glanced at Red, noticing her gaze drop to her phone. A flicker of guilt passed through me, but I pushed it aside.
"Sure, I don't have much planned," I said, trying to sound casual.
Red's silence was unsettling. We hadn't spoken much since our awkward conversation, and I didn't know how to bridge the gap.
As Kaida left, I turned to Red, hoping to break the ice. Our eyes met, but she quickly looked away.
"Hey, Red?" I ventured.
