Chloe's POV

I walked around the quad, scanning the area for any sign of Red. The sun was setting, casting a warm orange glow over the campus. Students were hurrying to get back to their dorms before curfew, but I didn't see Red among them.

I approached Red, who was sitting under the old oak tree, looking pleased with herself. "Red, what's going on?" I asked, trying to keep my tone neutral. "How did you get here?"

Red shrugged, her grin still plastered on her face. "I told you, I was just looking around. I didn't think I'd actually end up here."

I raised an eyebrow, skeptical. "Looking around? You were just in our dorm room with me, and then you vanished. What's going on, Red?"

Red sighed, her smile faltering for a moment. "Chloe, I'm telling you, I just... ended up here. Can we just drop it?"

I hesitated, unsure if I believed her. But something about Red's demeanor told me she was hiding something. I decided to let it go for now, but I was determined to get to the bottom of things.

"Fine," I said. "But next time, can you at least tell me where you're going? I was worried sick about you."

Red nodded, her smile returning. "I promise, Chloe. No more disappearing acts."

But as we walked back to our dorm, I couldn't shake the feeling that Red was still hiding something from me.

I climbed into my bed, feeling a mix of emotions. I was still trying to process what had happened earlier, and I couldn't shake the feeling that Red was hiding something from me.

"Good night, Red," I said, turning off my lamp.

But there was no response. I looked over at Red's bed, and saw that she was already fast asleep. Her chest was rising and falling with slow, steady breaths, and her face was peaceful.

I smiled slightly, feeling a pang of affection for my mysterious friend. Despite the weirdness of the day, I was glad we were roommates.

I settled into my own bed, and slowly adjusted to sleep.

Red's Pov

I woke up to Chloe's alarm blaring away on her nightstand. I winced at the loud buzzing noise, feeling a wave of annoyance wash over me.

"Chloe, turn that thing off!" I growled, throwing my pillow at her bed.

Chloe stirred, rubbing her eyes sleepily. "What time is it?" she mumbled.

"It's time for you to turn off that annoying alarm," I replied, tossing another pillow in her direction.

Chloe laughed and sat up, reaching over to shut off the alarm. "Sorry, Red. I didn't mean to wake you up."

I flopped back onto my pillow, trying to shake off the lingering sleepiness.

"Come on, Red, get up!" Chloe said, shaking my bed. "We need to hurry up and get to class."

I groaned, not wanting to leave the warmth of my bed. But I knew we couldn't be late, so I reluctantly got up and stumbled to the bathroom.

I turned the shower to cold and let the icy water wash over me, feeling my senses come alive. As I washed my hair and body, I felt my energy and alertness increase.

When I got out of the shower, I put on my favorite red outfit - a bright red hoodie and matching sneakers. I felt a surge of confidence as I looked at myself in the mirror.

As I opened the bathroom door, I saw Chloe already dressed and ready to go. She was wearing a blue dress and her hair was hanging loose. She looked bright and cheerful, a stark contrast to my own edgy style.

"Ready to go?" she asked, smiling at me.

I nodded, grabbing my backpack and following her out of our dorm room.

I walked into the Chemistry classroom, Chloe by my side, and couldn't help but think, "Great, we're early again." Chloe was always so worried about being on time, but I just didn't see the point.

As we entered the room, I spotted Alex and Maya already seated, looking like they owned the place. I raised an eyebrow, wondering why we kept running into them in every class.

"Hey, guys!" Chloe chimed, waving enthusiastically.

I rolled my eyes and blurted out, "Seriously, why do we keep seeing you two in every class?"

Chloe shot me a warning glance, trying to smooth things over. "Red means well, guys. She's just—"

I cut her off, my thoughts racing. What does Chloe know about me? She's always trying to impress people, thinking that's what I want too. But she has no idea what I'm really thinking.

I quickly took a seat, ignoring Alex and Maya's awkward smiles. Chloe joined me, and we sat in silence as the rest of the students filed in.

The bell rang, and Mr. Deley entered, greeting the class with a cheerful smile. I tuned him out, lost in my own thoughts.

My mind wandered out of the classroom, drifting to the mysterious symbol on my desk, the strange energy I felt earlier, and the annoying fact that Alex and Maya were everywhere.

Chloe nudged me, whispering, "Red, pay attention!"

I rolled my eyes, not bothering to hide my disinterest. I had no idea what Mr. Deley was talking about anyway.

The lesson dragged on, and I found myself doodling on my notebook, creating intricate patterns and symbols that seemed to mirror the one on my desk.

Finally, the bell rang, signaling the end of the lesson. I packed up my things quickly, eager to escape the classroom and clear my head.

As I stood up, Chloe said, "I'll see you later, Red! I have Science next."

I nodded and headed out, while Chloe went her separate way.

Next, I had Remedial Goodness 101 - just what I needed. A class to "fix" my supposed lack of goodness.

Principal Fairy Godmother greeted me warmly at the door, her smile a bit too bright for my taste. "Welcome, Red! I'm so glad you're here. We're going to work on building your empathy and kindness skills."

I snorted inwardly. Empathy and kindness? Please. I had more important things to worry about.

As I took my seat in Remedial Goodness 101, I noticed a familiar face walking in - Maya, the girl from my Chemistry class. I raised an eyebrow, surprised. She didn't exactly look like the rebellious type, always seeming so put-together and perfect.

What was she doing here?

Maya caught my eye and smiled hesitantly, taking a seat across from me. I nodded curtly, still trying to wrap my head around her presence in this class.

Principal Fairy Godmother began the lesson, droning on about the importance of empathy and kindness. I tuned her out, my mind wandering to more interesting things.

I wondered what Maya's story was. What had she done to end up in this class with me?

The lesson dragged on, with Principal Fairy Godmother assigning us a project to work on in pairs. Of course, I got stuck with Maya.
