You were sitting in your front hall, your Halloween costume poking you in all the wrong places, the bowl of candy resting gently on your lap. It had been a busy night with trick-or-treaters, and of course, the last thing you wanted to do was hand out candy, but your parents didn't care much about what you wanted.
It was just past eight-fifteen, the knocking on the door had slowed to a steady pace of once every few minutes and the number of sweets in the bowl was dwindling. Just as you stood to shut the porch light off, your phone rang in your pocket. You swiftly grabbed your phone, thankful for the interruption, but when you saw the name on the screen your heart froze.
Lydia Deetz, your ex-girlfriend's mother.
At first, you debated answering, wondering why she of all people was calling you, and what she would possibly want. But in the end, your curiosity outweighed everything else and you picked up the phone with a soft "Hello?"
"Y/n, is that you?" Ms. Deetz said, sounding panicked and out of breath. You would have thought she hadn't meant to call you except for the fact that she said your name.
"Yeah, it's me, is everything alright Ms. Deetz?" You asked, setting down the bowl of candy and switching off the porch light like you had meant to do before.
"Please, just Lydia... I need you to go to Astrid." She said quickly, not leaving any room for argument. You opened your mouth to begin to tell her that that wouldn't be a good idea, but she cut you off, continuing her panicked speech. "I would go get her myself but there is an issue..."
"Ms. Dee- Lydia, I don't think that's a very good idea. I mean... Astrid doesn't want to see me." You explained, thinking back to the last time you had seen Astrid, the hatred and disgust in her expression.
"I don't know what happened between you two," she breathed quickly, not leaving room for you to explain, "but she is in danger so I need you to go help her."
At the mention of Astrid in danger, your mind immediately started moving a million miles a minute. No matter what has happened between the two of you, you will always love her, even if she hates your guts. You immediately grabbed your keys off the kitchen counter before asking "Where is she?"
"125 Jefferson." Lydia answered, "Thank you." And with that, she hung up. 125 Jefferson? That address sounded painfully familiar... Then you remembered.
The murder house.
You rushed out to your car without a second thought, the key in the ignition and your foot on the gas within seconds.
***Flashback to a month ago***
"Y/n god damn it we are not talking about this again!" Astrid hissed as she walked past you into her dorm room. She was angry and your words weren't making it better... At all...
"Astrid, it's not like I'm saying this for fun. I feel like I'm going crazy. I am seeing people that I know aren't there, how do you think that feels?" Ever since you had gotten into a car accident and were technically pronounced dead for 20 seconds, you could now... See ghosts? And when you tried to tell your girlfriend about it... She didn't take it well.
You thought that maybe there would be a hint of understanding since you knew that her mom had the same issue. But when she turned to face you and you saw the slight tears in her eyes, you realized you were wrong.
"And to think..." She began, her voice wavering and sounding weak "to think that I had finally found someone I trusted. And it turns out... You were just with me to make a fool out of me."
"W-what? Baby what do you mean-" You begin to say, but she quickly cuts you off. The way she looked at you was completely different from how it had been before.
