The woman had reached over for him, only to find an empty space on the bed where she had thought he would be. Her fingers had grazed over the cool sheets of the bed a few times before she had actually found herself feeling the confusion rising to her mind. She moved to sit up from the pillow she was laying, and that's when she found he was not there on his side of the bed. Realizing this and processing it fully, being reeled from her feeling of sleep, she sat up, the sheets falling away from her as she turned to face the dim morning light filtering through the curtains. The room was silent, save for the distant chirp of a lone bird welcoming the dawn. Yet still, there was no sign of her husband.
She sat still and listened for the chirps, at least until she sighed. After her sigh, the woman moved to stand from her bed and was quick to snatch the robe from the chair nearby the bed and wrap it around herself as she stood. Her sleep clothes weren't too indecent, she just felt she needed the robe, as she wasn't sure if she had to go outside to look for the man who had awoken before her. As she moved through the house, she found it was quiet, too quiet. The silence didn't help her already rising anxiety from waking up without her husband. Though, now that she was thinking about that.
Miyoko didn't find herself necessarily dependent on him, not exactly anyway. She only just really wanted to know he was safe, she wanted him to be with her. It was hard for her not to want that after everything she's been through with him, if she was to be completely honest. And that was with herself and others. No, Miyoko wasn't dependent on him, she was dependent on time shared with him. And well, it helped both of them in the end, didn't it?Maybe that's why his sudden disappearance on her was scaring her now.
Miyoko's feet padded softly against the cool wooden floor as she made her way through the still house. Each room she passed through was empty, the usual signs of life conspicuously absent. All rooms except the one where a few of her children lay. The kitchen, often the heart of their home, was silent and untouched. No mugs out, no plates, not even a note. No signs of her husband were there, and she was beginning to think something had happened to him, if anything. The house was too still, not even the knowledge her children were asleep right now was helping her.
Miyoko took a moment to acknowledge the corner by the fridge. There was one sign of her husband there, but she knew that it was from the night before. There was frost left on the floor and by the wall. Miyoko remembered that it was from the freakout that night. Her husband's freakout. One he never fully discussed with her, or he never gave her the full details on it.
But she refused to put too much thought into it.
With each step, through the kitchen and away, the knot of worry in her stomach grew tighter. She tried to recall if there had been any signs, any hints that he might leave so abruptly. But nothing came to mind; last night had been as ordinary as any other. Miyoko didn't know what to think. And she didn't exactly have any guesses as to where Wynn went.
Finally, she reached the back door and hesitated, her hand on the cold doorknob. The early morning air carried a chill that seemed to seep through the cracks, whispering warnings of the unknown. It took her a moment to realize the doorknob was cold to the touch because of Wynn. The ice he radiates when stressed...could be...
Taking a deep breath to steady her nerves, Miyoko opened the door and stepped out into the dawn.
The world outside was just beginning to stir and the sky was painted in strokes of pink and orange. There was a clear sign that a few people were awake at this time, people and animals. She wrapped her robe tighter around her, the fabric a meager shield against the morning's embrace. Her eyes scanned the horizon, searching for any sign of him, a shadow, movement, anything. There was nothing ahead of her, but when she looked to where she knew the outdoor garden was, that's where she found him.
