Hey❤️
XXXMeredith curled up in bed, her knees drawn up to her chest, as another wave of pain rippled through her lower abdomen. The cramps were relentless, each one worse than the last, and she felt as though her entire body was tightening into a painful knot that wouldn't release.
She had experienced painful periods before, but this month's was particularly brutal. It had started in the early morning, a dull ache that had steadily grown into an unbearable pain by afternoon. Now, as the evening crept in, Meredith felt like she was at her breaking point.
The house was quiet. Zola, Bailey and Ellie were already in bed, and Derek had just finished tucking them in. He walked into their bedroom to find Meredith lying on her side, her face buried in the pillow, trying to muffle the whimpers that escaped her lips.
"Mer?" Derek's voice was soft, filled with concern as he approached the bed. He could tell something was wrong the moment he saw her, the way her body was curled into itself, as if trying to protect against some unseen enemy.
Meredith didn't respond, her eyes squeezed shut as she tried to breathe through the pain. Another cramp hit, and she let out a small, involuntary cry. The sound was weak, but it cut through Derek like a knife.
"Hey, hey, it's okay," Derek murmured, quickly climbing into bed beside her. He wrapped his arms around her, pulling her close to his chest. The warmth of his body was a welcome contrast to the cold, sharp pain radiating through her abdomen.
Meredith tried to hold back the tears that were threatening to spill over, but the combination of pain and exhaustion was too much. A sob escaped her throat, followed by another, and before she knew it, she was crying, her tears soaking into Derek's shirt.
"Shh, I'm here," Derek whispered, holding her tighter as she trembled against him. He gently stroked her hair, his fingers running through the strands in a soothing rhythm. "I'm right here, Mer. Let it out."
The tenderness in his voice broke through the wall she had been trying to keep up, and Meredith let the tears flow freely. She clung to Derek as if he were her lifeline, her hands fisting the fabric of his shirt as she buried her face in his chest.
"It hurts, Derek," she choked out between sobs. "It hurts so much."
"Aww baby, I know, I know," Derek murmured, his heart aching as he felt her pain, Meredith had told him that she'd experience extricating pain, she even fainted when she was a teenager in highschool. He wished he could take it all away, bear it for her, but all he could do was hold her and be there for her.
Meredith cried for what felt like hours, though it was only a few minutes. The physical pain of the cramps mixed with the emotional release, and by the time the tears began to slow, she was utterly spent.
Derek didn't move. He just held her, letting her cry until she had no more tears left. His hand continued to stroke her hair, his other arm wrapped securely around her back, anchoring her to him.
Eventually, Meredith's sobs quieted, and she lay still against Derek's chest, her breathing slow and ragged. The pain was still there, but the release of crying had eased some of the tension in her body.
"Do you want me to get you something for the pain?" Derek asked softly, his voice gentle and full of concern.
Meredith shook her head weakly. "No, I just... I just want to stay here," she whispered, her voice hoarse from crying.
Derek nodded, pressing a kiss to the top of her head. "Okay, whatever you need," he said, his lips brushing against her hair. "I've got you."
They lay there in silence for a while, Derek's presence a steady comfort as Meredith's body slowly began to relax against him. She focused on the sound of his heartbeat, the steady thump-thump beneath her ear, letting it ground her as the worst of the pain began to subside.
"Thank you," Meredith whispered after a long stretch of quiet, her voice barely audible.
Derek looked down at her, his eyes filled with love. "You don't have to thank me, Mer. I'm your husband. I'm here for you, always."
Meredith lifted her head slightly, meeting his gaze. Her eyes were red and puffy from crying, Derek couldn't help but smile while looking at his wife, even though she's in pain she looked so cute with her pouted lips. She looked exactly like Ellie. He gently wiped away the remnants of her tears with his thumb, his touch light and tender.
"I love you," she said, her voice soft but full of emotion.
Derek smiled, leaning down to kiss her forehead. "I love you too, Meredith. So much."
Meredith settled back against his chest, her body still weak from the pain but comforted by Derek's unwavering support. The storm inside her was beginning to calm, and she knew that as long as Derek was by her side, she could weather anything.
They stayed like that for the rest of the night, Derek holding her close, keeping her safe and warm. And as Meredith finally drifted off into an exhausted sleep, she knew that no matter how tough things got, they would always find solace in each other's arms.
