The alert system was ten times louder in Demacia than in Piltover. Jinx was used to the sound, just not this loud. She saw the storm clouds coming onto shore. Then a male voice spoke on the radios, explaining in little detail that there was a storm coming through and that they needed to seek shelter. Jinx nearly laughed. Did they seriously alert people of storms?
"Jinx, in here!" A voice called out. Jinx looked over to see Lux, "It's not safe, are you crazy?!"
"It's a damn storm!" Jinx said back as the wind grew strong, "You pussies!"
"You think this is a thunderstorm?! It's a tornado!"
"Oh, shit," Jinx said to herself, looking at the dark clouds. She quickly ran into the building Lux was in as the blonde shut the door, "I've never even seen a tornado."
"They don't go through Piltover," Lux explained, making sure all of the windows were bolted shut, "The mountains block them and push them right over into Noxus and Demacia."
"So you guys get tornados all the time?"
"No, but we get them more than Piltover and Zaun. Piltover hasn't had one since before Zaun was a thing."
It was hard for Jinx to think that Zaun used to not exist. It was all Piltover and everything was united. Eventually, the land split drifted too far and they weren't able to send supplies to the Undercity because it became too far of a walk. Then those people became neglected.
"So how long will this last?" Jinx asked.
"It could last a few minutes," Lux said, taking her coat off, "Or it could last a few hours."
"A few hours? Will this thing even hold?"
"Demacia and Noxus are built for the storms."
"I'm trusting you on that."
Lux scoffed, "You're one to talk about trust."
"Lux, I'm not your enemy. Your damn attitude is exactly why I lied about being from Piltover in the first place."
"Why are you here then?"
"I don't even know. I was put on a blimp-"
"Airship."
"Whatever. I was put on a damn airship and told I was coming here. Demacia of all places in the middle of a goddamn snowstorm."
Lux then looked traumatized as she stared at the weapon belt on Jinx's hips, "You have a gun," she said in horror.
Jinx had completely forgotten about that. She had hidden it in her jacket, but it must've uncovered it when she sat down. She stood up and moved the jacket back over it, "If I was gonna kill you, I would've done it by now."
"You stay away from me and my family."
"Seriously? For someone who's from a place who respects their military just as much as their government officials, you sure are scared of a damn hand gun."
"You're dangerous."
"I'm not!" Jinx snapped. Lux jumped back a little, keeping her distance from her, "I'm not dangerous. You people just make me seem that way."
"'You people'? You people are dangerous."
"You've never seen dangerous. You spoiled rich people know nothing. Your government does nothing but shield you."
"You don't know what you're talking about! I could have you killed!"
"I would've never given you to them."
Jinx furrowed her eyebrows and scoffed, "You people like to throw that threat around as if you know what it's like to constantly be treated like an animal. You know nothing about danger."
"Oh, really? I'm looking at it right now."
"I used to be scared of you rich people. I hid behind someone bigger than me who was just as scared as I was. The hate towards my people grew between each other and it ruined my life. You. Know. Nothing. Before you accuse me of being dangerous, maybe you should think twice about looking up to your government."
Jinx unlocked the door and heard the wind already swirling outside."Jinx, no!" Lux exclaimed.
Jinx opened the door, the wind flooding in and knocking stuff over. She didn't even look at Lux before walking out into the storm. The clouds were still in the same place as she saw them but the window grew stronger. There was a small funnel beginning to grow out of the swirling storm clouds, "Fuck," Jinx said to herself before running in the direction it was headed. The abandoned house she and Sevika were staying in.
She burst in the front door, seeing that Sevika was doing nothing, "We have to leave," Jinx told her.
"Leave?" Sevika asked, "Why?"
"There's a tornado coming. It's coming up the shoreline now, we have to go."
Sevika looked out the window and noticed the funnel growing from afar, "Shit," she said.
"Where are we gonna go?" Jinx asked, feeling a bit nervous.
"Back home."
"Home?! Caitlyn surely has all of those damn enforcers searching for me by now!"
"That little princess of Vi's won't do shit. Just get your shit together and we'll figure it out from there."
That little princess of Vi's. The words stung Jinx's ears. It would've been different if Caitlyn wasn't a Topsider. Jinx wouldn't have cared as much, but she did. It was supposed to just be her and Vi, but it turned out to be her and Silco, then it turned out to be just her watching Vi and Caitlyn from afar.
"Jinx! Now!" Sevika said, snapping her from her thoughts.
Jinx ran upstairs and got everything she had. Her old clothes, her hair bows, her stuffed bunny, leftover bullets. Everything. There was no way Sevika was forcing them back into that airship with the winds that strong. What if they would have to go on foot?
"Jinx, there's a boat!" Sevika yelled from downstairs, "We can use it to get around the storm!"
When Jinx got back downstairs, the storm had already reached the edge of town. Sevika opened the door and nearly got blown down from the wind, "Shit!" She yelled, "How do these people live through this?!"
"Lux said the mountains block them from reaching us!" Jinx yelled back, the wind filling her ears.
As they practically swam through the wind, they held their arms over their eyes. As they walked to the beach to find the boat, the sand hit their face like sleet. And like sleet, it hurt like hell. They held their arms over their eyes as they climbed into the little boat, "Are you sure we're gonna get back to Piltover in this thing?!" Jinx asked as Sevika pushed on the lever to start the engine.
"Only one way to find out!" Sevika shouted back as the boat slowly moved away from the shore.
