It was snowing. Christmas morning.I moved the extra blanket that was sitting at the foot of the bed and covered me and Ellie with it, allowing for more warmth as the cool air had managed to get into the house, bringing in the cold of the season.
Relaxing back into the pillows, I tried closing my eyes and trying to fall back asleep again. Sadly, sleep didn't seem to like me this morning, so I got up instead, heading to the bathroom.
I slowly move away from Ellie, carefully tucking the duvet around her to make sure no cold air gets to her as I get out of the bed and into the bathroom.
Only few minutes later, I walked back out to Ellie sitting up, rubbing one eye with her hand and looking around.
"Oh" She starts, once she spots me walking back towards the bed "Good morning".
"Go back to sleep love it's still early" I whisper, getting back under the covers next to her.
She moves over, snuggling up to my side, laying her head on my chest as I run my fingers along her scalp, listening as her breathing evens back out, her eyes peacefully closing again.
-----------------------------------
"Merry Christmas Ellie" I smiled down at the blonde once her eyes had re-opened.
"Merry Christmas to you too" She replies, moving up, placing a quick kiss to my lips before collapsing back on me, her eyes still clearly desperate for some more sleep.
I tuck the duvet tightly around her, ensuring she doesn't get cold as I give her a few minutes to wake up.
"It's a snowy Christmas" I announce, peeking down to see Ellie's eyes open at my statement.
"Really?" She asks, the hopefulness clear in her voice as she looks up at me, already smiling.
"Yeah come on get dressed quick and we can go out while it is still snowing"
She doesn't take a second thought, getting up and starting to put multiple layers of clothes on, determined to keep warm.
I do the same, grabbing Ellie a pair of gloves, scarf and hat, deciding that she probably didn't pack those essentials for the couple of days she was supposed to spend here. I stuff them in my pockets, she doesn't exactly need them inside yet.
I grab a set for myself too, taking Ellie's hand and quietly leading her downstairs. My parents were still asleep, which was perfect, as we wont be interrupted by them.
I slip my shoes on, walking over and quietly open the door, letting Ellie leave first and closing it behind me.
"Wait" I say, stopping Ellie before she walks down the pathway to the sidewalk.
She looks at me slightly confused as I walk over to her, placing a scarf around her neck, and a hat to cover her head.
She takes a quick glance at the sidewalk before turning back over to me, moving closer to tangle our lips in a quick but sweet kiss, pulling away and uttering a "thank you" before I pass her the pair of gloves as well, her smiling in appreciation as she puts them on, before using one of those hands to reach out for mine, which I take with ease.
We make our way down the street, both of us naturally heading towards the park without even talking about it as the snow builds up on the sidewalks around us.
"I love the snow, I don't feel like it comes around often anymore" I ponder out loud, looking around at the snow and taking a deep breath in, trying to appreciate the moment.
"I love the snow too, unless the snow is like a tiny layer that just melts or turns into ice"
"Yeah it's the best when it's fluffy and ready for snowball fights and snowmen"
