Ever since the emperor had been buried, everything else felt oddly peaceful. But to a vigilant young man like Cruel, he thought, "This must be the calm before the storm."
6 days after Caesar Helel's death had been announced to the world, Princess Juliet decided to leave her chamber more often than before. Today, she is headed for the plaza to look at the luxurious shops only the rich can afford.
While walking behind her like he usually does, Cruel asks, "Princess, may I know the reason for your sudden outgoing behavior?"
"Why? Is it wrong for me to walk around town now that I have returned to my kingdom?" Juliet replies, her soft voice gently harmonizing with the street's bustling noise.
"No." Cruel answered calmly. "But in broad daylight...?"
Princess Juliet halted her steps, turning around to face her companion, "Did you not tell me I am safe with you at all costs?"
The young man falls silent, realizing, she's right.
"Forgive me, Princess. It's just that..." Cruel scratches his head, ruffling his ashen hair. unsure of what to say next. She stood there, waiting for his response, but he couldn't find the right words to use. "Ah, doesn't matter. Let's go, Princess."
Juliet furrowed her brows, wondering what he wished to say.
Thus, she refused to follow along. She remained right where she was, gazing at the young man.
Stubborn as always, Cruel thought as he glanced at her. He folds his arms together, "Have you forgotten what Don Zenoeus told us after your father's... His Royal Highness's burial?"
"What of it?" Juliet immediately replies.
Cruel recalls the meeting they had 5 days ago...
One afternoon with bright, clear skies, Don Zenoeus gathered the Thorn Princes along with Princess Juliet, inviting them to his office. As expected, the young monarchs were escorted by both Cruel and Natalis.
"Now that Emperor Caesar is gone, we must summon Prince Julius with haste." Don Zenoeus spoke while he stood in front of the royal children. He turns his eyes on the 3rd Prince, narrowing his gaze at the raven-haired Zoan, "What happened in Remoirta, Prince Saga, it's..."
"Ah yes," Saga shrugged with a mischievous smirk on his face. "I know it won't last long. But relax, Lord Zeno. I have plans when a war breaks out."
The Lawsin leader rubs his temples, "A war is exactly what we were trying to prevent..." He soughed. "Now that the rest of the world will learn about this crisis, we're bound to be shrouded by enemies. We must brace ourselves." He scanned the room, meeting everyone's eyes as he spoke solemnly.
"Who would've thought, the peaceful era my father brought to this realm would end after merely 3 decades?" Saga chuckles, somewhat adding tension in the room with his remark.
"Father held this empire together, without him, we are..." Prince Shiki mumbled with a frown.
"Fret not, royal children. You have us, the Lawsins. We're here to guide you no matter what." Don Zenoeus said as he approached their seats. "That said, Princess Juliet's life could still be in danger."
Having her name mentioned, she looks up at Don Zenoeus's face. Though her expression remains soft, her eyes gleamed with a flicker of uncertainty.
"I've been meaning to ask you about that, Lord Zeno. Have you found anything regarding father's assassin... the one who attacked sis?" Prince Saga speaks as he slightly raises his left arm open.
