Spot awoke praying to God it was a dream. But it wasn't. At least she had left him so she wouldn't be late for work. He had already missed his chance to buy papers. He didn't care. He wouldn't have sold papers that day anyway. His entire body ached all over and he felt like he would break if he moved. Remembering last night made him not want to close his eyes. Now he knew what she had meant. The events played over and and over in his head. They wouldn't go away. He couldn't even see how she would've got into Brooklyn not to mention the lodging house. But she did know everyone and how to get to his room the back way. He didn't know if a girl could rape a boy, but if so that was it. She finally got what she wanted, but she still wasn't going to leave. She made that clear to him. He very carefully got out of bed. His body screamed as he cleaned himself up and dressed. He was almost finished buttoning his shirt when he heard a knock on his door. Oh great. He just got dressed and now the damn she-devil wanted to rip his clothes off again. But she wouldn't knock, would she? He opened the door and almost fainted.

"Charlie?"

She punched him hard in the stomach. He collapsed in much pain and confusion.

"What was that for?" He said still on the floor.

"Don't act like you'se don't know."

"What?"

"I'se still can't believe how stupid I'se was! I trusted you!! And you--you used me--"

"I'se didn't--"

"And I'se only got myself ta blame! I should've listened ta myself and ta Race--"

"Race? I'se thought we kept it a secret."

"You knows he knew everythin' from the beginning. And I'se had to have someone ta cover for me while I'se was off making the biggest mistake of my life!!"

"Can I'se explain--"

"I'se don't wanna hear it!! I'se don't care if you'se thought I'se wasn't comin' back! First of all ya should know me betta than that after all I'se told you'se and second it didn't take ya very long ta get ova me, what you said was the best thing that eva happened ta you'se!!"

"Fine. Be mad. I'se don't care. But I'se tellin' ya I'se would neva--"

"Well ya did. You hurt me Spot."

Spot couldn't hold it back. It seemed like the whole world was against him. He couldn't take it if she was against him too. She didn't even call him Gabriel like she does when they're alone. All he could do was let the tears fall. He hurt her. He hurt himself. She tossed his key to him and left out the door and out of his life, leaving a handprint on his heart. Spot wanted to scream. He wanted to wake up from this nightmare. But how could he when he wasn't asleep? He slowly got up from the floor. He looked at his key and sobbed. He had never cried more tears in his life. He was alone again. He allowed himself to be destroyed by his own feelings. He hated it. He hated himself. He did this to himself. No one else. It was his fault. He kept wishing he had stayed "Spot Conlon".

"Didja break his heart?" Race asked her as she came out.

"I'se dunno. He cried."

"Spot Conlon? Cried? You'se jokin'."

"Nope."

"Wow."

"I'se just wanna get outta here. Let's go home."

"I'se just hopes it gets betta Charlie. I'se really do."

"Thanks Race. But it won't."

"How come?"

"I'se just lost the best thing that's eva happened to me. How many times does somethin' like that happen ta street kids? How often Race?"

"This'll work out for the greater good."

"Ya think so?"

"I'se know so."
