The idea of hanging out in the comfort of her own home was irresistible for Zeta. She looked up toward Kaela with excitement, "Sleepover! Let's do a sleepover! If we do a sleepover, I'll finish my homework, I promise! You'll agree, right? Right?"
Her intense reaction to the idea surprised even me. Just how badly did she want to go with Kaela? No wonder they had a fight when Kaela decided not to go out for Zeta to finish her homework.
Facing Zeta's unexpected fervor, Kaela could only yield. "Fine. But we'll have to finish your homework first before we do anything else, okay?"
"Okay!" Zeta replied with a bright smile.
"Alright, it's settled then. Let's grab my stuff first, okay?" Kaela suggested.
"Sure!" Zeta answered excitedly. "I can't wait to see Kaela's pajamas, hehe."
Kaela shook her head in exasperation, "I don't even wear pajamas... I only wear some lousy shirt to bed."
"Then I can't wait to see Kaela in a lousy shirt!" Zeta exclaimed nonsensically.
"You're just excited at anything, haish." Kaela flicked Zeta's forehead before turning toward me, "You're just going to push the problems at me like that, detective?"
I shrugged my shoulders in response, "Hey, I solved it, didn't I? Besides, you don't really hate it, right?"
A warm smile spread on Kaela's face as she glanced at Zeta, "...Yeah, it's fine. You really did more than what I asked for. Thanks, detective."
"No problem! With me and my assistant around, nothing's too much for Anything Detective Agency! Hahaha!" I laughed boisterously while patting Sari's shoulder, much to her dismay.
Kaela sighed at my remark and commented to Sari, "Your detective is a handful to deal with, Sari. Stay strong, okay?"
"I need to do more than staying strong, but thanks for your concern." Sari replied with a wry smile.
"You guys are talking about me as if I'm a pain in the ass to deal with," I complained about their comments.
"That's because you are, detective."
"Hey!"
""Hahahaha!""
Kaela and Zeta let out their laughter on Sari's snide remark at my expense. Despite being the butt of the joke, seeing them smile brightly didn't feel so bad. I couldn't help but chuckle along with them.
After settling down her laughter, Kaela pulled out her phone. "Let me pay you before I forget from laughing too hard. Give me your account number."
Sari replied, "Just send it to mine. I can't trust the detective to deal with our finances."
Although it was the cover story we made up since I basically entered this country illegally, hearing her say it in a straightforward manner made me feel shitty. In fact, it was almost like she fully meant what she said.
'I know I kind of blew our money on making our agency's billboard, but that's just a one-time thing, you know? Surely she's just really good at acting, right?' I convinced myself for the sake of my own ego.
After a few moments, Kaela finished transferring the fee over to Sari. At that moment, Sari suddenly stuttered, "I-I-Is this really correct? Didn't you send too much?"
Kaela coolly waved off her concern, "It's fine. Just think of it as me supporting your business."
"But still, this is..."
Sari's reaction made me curious about what could possibly catch her off guard. I placed the consultation fee amount on the billboard, and it shouldn't be something that could make her act like this. My curiosity got the best of me as I peered over Sari's phone over her shoulder.
