Somehow, Risu's truck managed to travel all the way to the warehouse, pick up the spare ice sculpture, and bring it back to Reine's restaurant just as the sun went down. I would like to explain how she pulled off this impossible feat, but I wasn't even sure of what had happened in the first place. All I remembered from the drive was the blurry view in front of me along with a flashing red and blue light that would blink momentarily from behind us.
The only conclusion that I could draw was that Risu had turned every traffic law into a checklist in order to fulfill her delivery. As a result, the two victims from her joyride were currently reeling from the aftereffect.
"Oeeeeeeghh..."
"I survived... Haa... Ugh..."
Sari and I were left retching on the ground from enduring the brutal rollercoaster ride. Risu, on the other hand, appeared rejuvenated. In fact, it felt like her skin was glowing. Judging by the bright smile on her face, all her pent-up stress had been blown away from driving as if she owned the road for herself.
"What the hell? The ice sculpture looks way better than I expected!" Reine exclaimed in surprise after finally seeing the ice sculpture that she ordered for the first time.
"Hehe, what can I say? I'm just that good." Risu replied with a smug smile on her face.
"Stop speaking like you're the one that made this ice sculpture. Are you really acting like this after messing up something this grand this entire time? Were you born without a shred of shame in your head? Huh?"
Reine's scathing remark immediately shut Risu from gloating, but she still attempted to defend herself. "...I mean, I did deliver it successfully at the end, right? Don't I deserve some credit for that?"
"Do you want to receive the credit from my left hand or my right hand?"
"Please forgive me!"
Risu's attitude immediately performed a one-eighty as soon as Reine offered her clenched fist with a bright smile. Thanks to Risu, I made a mental note to not get into Reine's bad side.
Without knowing my inner thought, Reine turned toward us and thanked us, "Anyway, I'm really grateful that both of you managed to figure out the reason behind the ice sculpture's disappearance. Thanks to you, my restaurant is finally ready for the grand opening!"
I struggled to catch my breath in order to answer her, "I'm just... doing my job... Ha... haha..."
"Well, since you finished your job, it's only right that you got paid for it. Do you have a QR?"
"A what? Ugh, I don't know... Sari, can you handle it?"
My head was spinning too much to understand what Reine was saying. Thankfully, I have a dependable assistant that can take care of it. I could hear her grumbling something under her breath as she picked herself up from the ground, but I'll take any kind of curse she could muster if it means I won't have to deal with more work in my current condition.
After tinkering with their phones for a while, Sari pocketed her phone and walked toward me. "It's done, detective. Get up already, you're embarrassing me."
"No need to nag about it... Ugh..."
I let out a grunt as I finally picked myself off the ground. After that quick rest, I could finally put some strength into my legs, albeit barely. Although I managed to solve another case, the suffering I went through only made me feel bitter.
'Just what the hell is wrong with the people in this country? No matter how I see it, I really can't deal with these girls.'
I shook off the thought in my mind and prepared to leave. Risu seemed to notice it as she gave us an offer, "I can drop you guys off at your office if you want. How about it?"
