"That was a lot Moe are you sure you're okay?" Andrew asked handing Will the cup of ice he got at the concession stand. "Yeah just uneasy" I answered. "Do you need me to kill him?" Alex offered. "No, I think Will's got it" I smiled pressing the cup to his bloodied face. "Thank you princess."
"I can't believe you would do that for me" I stated brushing out my hair. "Why wouldn't I?" We wondered. "I don't know, it's just nobody's ever stood up for me like that before?" I admitted. "Hey, I'll always stand up for you" He smiled.
"Well we should probably all get home before your mother freaks out" Aunt Lexie urged. "Yes definitely" Jo laughed agreeing. I watched behind me as Alex secretly gave Will a fist bump, making me laugh.
"You got a good one, Morgan" Jo whispered as we waited for the boys to catch back up. "I know" I just laughed.
-------
"How was the game?" My mom asked as I came into the kitchen. "It was fine" I sighed. "Did you guys win?" She wondered. "Mhm" I nodded.
"Anything else happen?" She raised an eyebrow. "Nope" I stated quickly. I felt like there were oceans between us even though she was right there. I was changing. Maybe we were changing. Nobody wanted to believe it.
--- flashback ---
It was probably last summer and Mer was having a dinner for some, now unmemorable occasion. "If Harriet and I are that close in 10 year's, then that's how I'll know I've made it as a mom" April laughed. "Hey M why don't you go hang out with Jo and Steph and Andrew, so the adults can talk" My mom requested.
"Hey bugs!" Jo smiled. She had become best friends with Aunt Lexie making her one of my favorites. "Hi Jo-Jo" I giggled. We got to talking and by now we all knew about Jo's childhood.
"Never take your mom for granted, M. I would have killed for a mom like that, actually I would have killed for a mom at all."
I have started to take my mom for granted. I mean I know if she could have been there she would, right? But theres just such a gap between us and I don't know how to close it back.
-------
"What's wrong?" Will asked pausing the movie, he noticed I was thinking. "Nothing" I replied coldly, causing him to close the laptop and move it to the bed side table and sit up.
"I know somethings wrong princess, I'm here" He reassured me. "I just feel so distant from my mom recently and that makes me feel stupid to tell you that because your mom passed away and your dad's in the icu" I admitted.
"It's not stupid," he comforted, "I know you haven't been through nothing Mo, and this just seems like another thing going wrong, but do you know how strong you are?"
I shook my head. "You are so strong Morgan and that's one of the things I like most about you, we're fighters!" He pulled me closer.
"I'm sorry" I cried. "Don't be sorry, M. You have nothing to be sorry for" He rubbed my shoulder, "do you want to go try to talk to her now?"
-------
"Momma?" I called walking into the living room. "Yeah baby?" She asked. "I love you" Is all I said before hugging her. "Are you okay?" She wondered. "I just feel so distant from you and I'm scared we're going to lose our special bond" I frowned curling up against her.
"Oh baby, I'm sorry I've been neglecting you hon" She cuddled me. "I know it's okay it happens, I just miss you" I admitted. "You wanna watch an episode of Gilmore girls?" She offered. "More than anything!"
