( A/N: Let me explain, this is a mini story of Alastor and Esme's lives together in the modern world. This is basically an ongoing fic but lives in this book as it's part of multiple different AUs that I have for them.)

The year was 2024 in the French Quarter of New Orleans. It was a beautiful September morning with bright blue skies filled with sunshine. The city was a popular stop for influencers and college kids who would flock during their breaks to indulge in the town's festivities. With the beginning of Fall approaching and most college kids being away, the town was quieter this morning.

Alastor, an old soul of the town, was sitting in the town's park watching over a small fountain. He sips on his coffee as he skims through his book. The young man was different than most, spending time off of social media and more focused on literature or his work. He was a local radio host for their little station, but also spent some time on the side as a podcaster, reporting on true crime cases from back in the day. He kept his identity private, only speaking behind a little icon, and didn't have many (if any close friends).

He enjoyed his solitude, especially the mornings where he could catch up on his readings.

His silence was disturbed, however, when the sounds of an engine approached the side of the park. He looks over his shoulder to see a new car, a brand new Porsche Panamera to be exact, pulling up and parking right next to the sidewalk. The driver's door opens and a young woman steps out.

She's wearing a black and white checked dress with a luxury band around the waist paired with a black blazer. Her eyes are shielded by a pair of Chanel sunglasses with golden arches on the rims. She closes her door and walks to the sidewalk, her heels clicking on the concrete, as she takes her phone out of her purse and begins to snap pictures of the park.

She walks inside, right by him.

She walks to the fountain, moving her sunglasses to the top of her head. She reaches into her purse and pulls out a full-scale camera, taking the cover off and snapping some pictures.

Meanwhile, Alastor watched her with curiosity with a raised eyebrow. He slowly puts down his book, lost in thought.

Hmm, another tourist? The park is usually quiet at this time...

She continued to look around the park, her back turned to him. His eyes look up and down her appearance, noting her expensive taste and meticulous look. He slowly gets up from his bench, placing his book on the wood before walking behind her,

"Lovely day~" He chirps, accidentally startling her and causing her to jump and drop her camera into the fountain.

She gasps as her camera fumbles out of her hands and splashes into the water, "Ah, dammit!" She shouts, glaring at him with an annoyed look before bending down and looking into the fountain.

Alastor flinches as the moment happens, chuckling softly before tilting his head and speaking, "My word! Clumsy, are we?"

"'My World' what are you, 95?" She snickers as she looks back down into the water, "Ugh, that was my new one too...." She reaches in, "Gross..."

"That's a shame, but that's what happens when one is too....careless..."

She snaps her head back up at him, "Careless? You snuck up on me!" She leans forward, "I'm supposed to record for our ne- AHHH!" her heels slip on the wet ground and she splashes into the fountain.

Alastor gasps as she falls over, but soon bursts into laughter, doubling over, "Good lord, woman, be a little more aware of your surroundings!"

She emerges from the water, her hair soaked, glasses floating next to her, and her camera now in her hand, "ARGH!" She splashes him in frustration.
