RIVAAN

‘You really didn’t have to get me these books, i don't think i can read them all’ Tira replied as we walked out of the cafe.

‘It’s not like you have to read them today, you can read them anytime you want and even if you don't want to read them ever, you can put them in your collection.’ I replied.

‘How can you be so sure that I have a collection?’

‘Umm, Tira, there are two kinds of people who come into this cafe, the aesthetic instagram people and the readers and since you have not even checked your phone since you arrived i know that you fall in the second category and so, you do have a collection captain’.

‘Were you seriously looking at me the whole time’?

‘What do you mean?’

She stopped and turned towards me on the stairs, looked me in the eyes and said ‘You said that I didn't pick up my phone the whole time, you were watching me the whole time?

‘I- Yess. I'm sorry if that made you uncomfortable’. I told the truth, there was no point in lying.

‘No, it's fine. I'm not used to being noticeable, except for doctors and nurses’. She replied and continued walking down the stairs.

‘Well you are noticeable’.

And then I just gave her a smile, I didn't know what else to say and I didn't want to say anything wrong.

We hit the last step of the stairs and then I pointed her towards my car.

‘Are we going in a car?’ She asked.

‘Yes , you can send the number plate to your family or friends and I can even talk to them and you can give my number to them’.

‘It’s fine Rivaan, I was just asking, you don't have to worry about it and if I have to see the places i have never seen, i have to trust you’. She said while laughing.

‘So you trust me huh’?

‘Trust you, don't love you, so there's no need for that snarky smile.

‘Not yet’ I replied with a wink.

‘Don't get ahead of yourself, plus i dont have alot to compare with so i have to trust with whatever i have’ She replied. She never misses, never!

‘You are trusting and ‘in the process of loving’ the right person’

She shook her head and smiled at how delusional I was being. I opened the door to her seat , she sat and put the books at the back of the seat and buckled the seat belt. I closed her door and came to my seat and strapped in my seat belt, checked if her seat belt was correctly strapped and then checked mine and then proceeded to check if the doors were locked and they were and then I finally started the car.

‘You are quite the safety king. You don't seem like that guy,’ Tira said.

‘Like what guy’?

‘Like the guy who is precautious, you seem like the guy who likes to break the rules, the one who runs towards the danger and not away from it.’ She said while giving dramatic emphasis on the last sentence as much as she could.

I couldn't control my laugh and replied ‘ well, mostly I'm that kind of a guy but not when it comes to cars and road safety.’

‘Why’?

Then there was the bloody knot again in my throat. I have always been like this but nobody has ever asked me as to why I'm like this, not my friends , not any of the girls i've been with, simply no one. She was the first person who asked me this and I just couldn't answer. I looked away from her, towards the road, closed my fist around the steering wheel , swallowed the knot and replied to her.

‘My mom died in a car accident’.
