I said yes, partly because I knew that he would not take no as an answer and partly because I wanted to spend a little more time with him. I know I was selfish but with him, I just couldn't control myself which was weird because I've always been the person who needs to be incharge, who needs to be organised. The doctors in my hospital even told my parents that they think I was the kid who was not only taking the medicines on time but was scheduling them as well. It was because my medicines were the only thing I could control. But with Rivaan I was totally different, I didn't want to control things, I wanted to go with the flow, I wanted him to take the lead.
‘Aren’t you hungry? It's almost 3:00pm and we haven't eaten anything yet.’ Rivaan asked as we exited the garden and walked towards the car.
‘Um, no, not that much. Are you’?
‘A- i mean - it's fine, i mean i'm not, i think we should go’. He replied.
He was hungry and it was cute to see him not admit the truth. He opened my side of the car door and I sat and put on the seat belt. When he opened the door and settled i said,
‘Well , now that we have talked about it , I think I'm a little hungry’.
‘T, you don't have to do that , I'm honestly fine.’He laughed.
‘I didn't do anything, you said the word food and I'm hungry because of it and it's your doing captain’. I replied defending myself like a 5 year old who is caught waking up past his bedtime.
‘I said hungry’. He replied
‘What?’
‘I said hungry and not food’. He teased me.
‘Aagh, potato, patahto’ I rolled my eyes.
‘Okay fine, So what do you want to eat cherry? , perhaps cherry?’  He joked, or at least he thought it was a joke.
A two minute silence(okay it was exaggeration)
He was about to explain his fall in the sense of humour game when i interrupted him,
‘Dont, don't even try, ‘Perhaps cherry’? Seriously Rivaan , tsk-tsk-tsk, i thought you could do better’. I said while expressing my full displeasement.
‘I can, it was- it -i thoug-’
‘ Dont okay, i don't know how many bad jokes i can take for today’ I laughed.
‘Hey, it was one bad joke, the rest of the time you laughed alright huh,’ He defended himself.
‘So think how bad this joke was’. I love to annoy him
‘Fine, it was a bad joke. Now, what will you have Miss Tira, wait, i don't know what your last name is. Tell me so I can complete my question’.
‘ I don't know yours’.
‘Oh God Tira, reading you is impos–,
Fine, Awasthi, can you tell me yours now ?’
‘Kaushal, and i’ll have anything so can we go eat now please Mr. Awasthi?
‘Sure, Ms. Kaushal’. He replied with his very obvious and crushing wink.
Rivaan did his car  safety check  and then he started the car. I had spent only one day with him and it feels like I have known him forever, trusted him forever, lov-.
No, No, It can't , it shouldn't, I thought about it because it- it-, damnit, it was the flow, it's not true , it can’t be , how can you lov- , nope i'm not saying that word..  It can't happen, not in just a day. (or maybe it can and it won't be as bad as i think, no wait, no it will be worse, for him , it will be the worst).
I mentally crossed a line on these thoughts when a soft drizzle distracted me. I looked outside my window for a few minutes before asking,
‘Where are we going?’
‘It's a surprise’ He replied
‘A surprise? Is this the first place?’
‘No, this one is different. This is my favourite place when I need some solitude’.He said as he turned the steering wheel with his one hand and this soft motion did a little something (ALOT) to me.
‘ Solitude huh? Guess I annoyed you more than I planned’ I replied.
‘What? NO, not at all, i just wanted to take my favourite person to my favourite place’. He winked and i blushed, more like i was red as a tomato and he definitely noticed it because the next thing he said was
‘ Cherry is the perfect nickname for you’
‘Wha- why?’
‘The colour matches with your face’ Boy he was too quick with his replies.
‘Wha- No, Wait a minute, its winter and it's raining okay , so i'm just a little cold and that's why my face is red and it's not even really red its light red, it's even its light pink, God Rivaan stop looking me like that’ I said ( more like a annoyed scream)
‘Like what’ He smirked.
‘Like this , with those eyes and with that smile, just stop okay’
‘I'm not doing anything’ He laughed.
‘You are and you know it’ I nudged his arm.
‘Okay I won't but on one condition’ He replied.
‘Fine, whatever it is, I'll do it’.
‘Okay done and here we are’ He said as he slowly turned outside an alleyway’.
‘Oh, we have arrived," I asked.
‘Yes’
We both took off our seat belts and stepped outside the car. It was still raining , but it was very light. He stood beside me and locked the door as he put a baseball cap on my head which had his name on it and said
‘The place is in this alleyway, the car couldn't go inside , so we have to walk’.
‘What did you play?’ I asked as we started walking
‘What, why?’
‘Your cap, your name is ‘awasthi’.’
‘You saw that? wow, um equestrian’ He replied
‘Really , god you are really rich’ I said
‘Well, maybe, but it was a school thing. My family has always been a part of the equestrian club. Typically you have to wear a helmet but my mom got me this cap to wear at the ceremonies that are held afterwards’.
‘It is really beautiful, Your mother had a great choice and thank you for giving me to wear it’. I smiled.
‘She would have loved you’ He smiled.
‘I think thats my favourite compliment’ I smiled back
We both walked in silence for a bit when he instantly grabbed my hand and said ‘there , that's the place’ as he walked into a small bakery looking shop.
As we entered the shop, I noticed it was the cosiest place i have ever seen, it was beautiful. There was a lady in her mid forties who saw us and gave Rivaan a little smile and told him that he can sit at his table.
‘Seems like you are a regular here’ I asked
‘Yes, my pappy, uh, my grandfather used to come here a lot’. He replied
‘Pappy, that's cute’
‘I used to call him when I was a kid and now it seems a bit lame but he likes it so’. He said as we sat on a table just beside a window.
‘Its not lame it's cute and you still are a kid’
‘I don't think twenty four years will fall under the kids category’
‘You are twenty four??’ I gasped.
‘Yes, you are twenty one  right? He laughed.
‘Yes , I'm twenty one.. You dont look like you are twenty four’
‘Good genes i guess, anyway, what would you like to eat? He asked
‘You said it was a surprise, so go ahead surprise me’. I winked
He blushed, He blushed…… HE BLUSHED!!!!!
‘Did you just blus-?
‘Okay, I will surprise you, are you allergic to anything?’ He cut me off and held a menu in front of his face pretending to read it.
‘No, nothing………Cherry’.
He put the menu down and a hand on his face and just laughed.
I like this. I like him. I'll admit it this time.
