"I've got to."

She didn't want to lose her job. Working for Taehyung gave her everything she'd been searching for in her life.

"I can take care of you."

Y/N gazed at him. "I don't want you to take care of me."

He spoke her name softly, but she shook her head. "No, Jungkook. I don't need you to take care of me."

Jungkook didn't argue with her, and she made him a pile of pancakes, which he devoured.

One week later

Jungkook watched Y/N serve a table across from him. The group of businessmen were drinking a little too much for his liking. His companion, a business associate discussing a new venture into computer games, kept talking, but Jungkook wasn't listening. He was more concerned with Y/N dealing with the rowdy crowd.

Taehyung, who was the owner of the restaurant, wouldn't let Jungkook intervene as Y/N had specifically requested not to. For the past week, she had been keeping her distance, and they still hadn't discussed his admission to her. Jungkook had spent time at her place, but Y/N rarely spoke to him anymore.

Giving her space wasn't helping their situation. In fact, it felt like she was distancing herself even more.

"Excuse me a moment," Jungkook cut the man off and stood up, walking toward the kitchen. Taehyung was singing as he cooked, and the staff around him joined in when they could, keeping the kitchen lively. "Taehyung, I need a word."

"I'm busy," Taehyung said, flipping the vegetables in his pan.

"I want Y/N moved from that table."

"I can't do it, Jungkook. She has to complain for me to make that call. Dealing with rowdy men is part of her job, and she's handling it. Don't make a scene."

Spinning on his heel, Jungkook saw Y/N glaring at him from the doorway.

"A word," she said sharply.

"Take my office," Taehyung called after them. "No one needs to see you two fighting in public."

Y/N stormed into Taehyung's office, and Jungkook closed the door behind them.

"What the hell are you doing? This is my job, and Taehyung has rules about getting involved with customers," she snapped.

"I'm part owner of this restaurant," Jungkook shot back.

"That makes it worse. You're my boss."

"Cut the crap, Y/N. I've got a right to care about you. Those men are disrespecting you."

"They're paying customers, and I like working here. Stop interfering in my life. I'm trying to keep my job, but the other staff are already giving me side-eyes because of your outburst."

"We knew each other long before you started working here."

"You don't get it, do you? I need space, Jungkook. And you just can't seem to give it to me."

"I've given you plenty of space," he said, stepping closer to her. "But we still haven't talked about what happened between us. You can't keep running away from me."

She let out a sarcastic laugh. "I'm not running away. I haven't been running for a long time, but you're out of your mind if you think I'll just let this slide."

He reached up, gently cupping her cheek. Her soft lips called to him, making his pulse quicken. She was so breathtakingly beautiful, and he ached to touch her.

Unable to resist any longer, he lowered his head and captured her lips in a heated kiss, sliding his tongue into her mouth. She moaned softly, her fingers digging into his arms, but for a moment, she stayed frozen.

Then, Y/N pulled away, shaking her head. "We can't... Anaya—"

"Anaya is gone, Y/N," Jungkook whispered, pressing his forehead against hers. "She's gone, and life is too damn short to keep denying this. I need you, and I know you need me too."

Her hands, which had been pushing him away moments ago, now wrapped around his neck. She pressed her lips back against his, more eagerly this time.

Jungkook groaned as he lifted her effortlessly onto the desk, deepening the kiss. He slid his tongue along hers, savoring every second of the way she melted into him. Her fingers gripped his hair, pulling him closer.

Kissing down her neck, he sucked on her tender skin, knowing it would leave a mark. Her uniform prevented him from exploring further down, but it didn't matter. He needed her right now.

"Please, Jungkook," she whispered breathlessly. "Wait... we can't... This is Taehyung's office."

"It's partly mine too," Jungkook growled, shoving her skirt up around her waist, his need overpowering his reasoning. He reached for his belt with one hand, freeing himself. "I need to be inside you."
