In the end, Hiro had let Ronni talk him into going for a coffee even though it was the very last thing he felt like doing, he just wanted to go home with a take out.
"leave your car here, we'll take mine and I'll bring you back to it later" Ronni said.
"wouldn't it be easier if I just followed you?" Hiro said, that way he could leave whenever he wanted.
"what's the matter, don't you trust me?" Ronni replied.
"of course but I'm not really dressed to be riding in your pick up truck" Hiro made the excuse then realised how it sounded before adding,
"I'm sorry, I didn't mean ..."
"that's ok, neither am I" Ronni said smiling.
Ronni placed the palm of his hand at the base of Hiro's back and led him down a narrow path by the side of the restaurant until they came to a black lexus LC which Ronni unlocked as they approached.
Hiro felt foolish for making the comment about a pick up truck and he also felt intimidated as Ronni opened the passenger door and held it for him.
"are you sure you want to go for coffee, I'm guessing you have far more important places to be right now" Hiro said.
"I'm positive Hiro, stop worrying about what I want and just let me take you for a coffee" Ronni replied.
Hiro slid into the seat of the luxury car and nearly moaned at how soft the upholstery was inside, he was afraid to touch anything in case he damaged it.
Ronni climbed behind the wheel and within minutes they were headed down the highway and Hiro couldn't help checking him out as he drove.
He remembered Ronni as being a reticent person who had an air of mystery about him, he had always been good looking but the man who sat beside him now was downright handsome, self assured and held a commanding demeanor.
It seemed that the years had been very kind to Ronni whereas for him they had been barely tolerable, little had he known that his world was going to come crumbling down after the last time they had seen each other but he had somehow managed to stay afloat.
He had worked his way through college and landed a job at a prestigious company immediately after and he had high hopes for his future until he realised that everyone else kept being promoted but never him.
It was a hard lesson to learn when he realised that those who were getting the promotions had inside connections and it didn't matter how hard he worked or how many hours he put in, nothing was ever going to change.
Hiro who had been lost in his thoughts suddenly came to his senses as Ronni indicated right and drove into the grounds of a very luxurious looking apartment block.
"these are apartments, I thought we were going for a coffee" Hiro said.
"we are" Ronni replied as he parked up and climbed out then he walked around the car and opened the door for Hiro.
"thank you" Hiro said as he climbed out of the car and Ronni escorted him inside once again with his hand at the base of his spine while they both walked across the lobby to the elevators and Hiro was beginning to feel uncomfortable.
Once inside, Ronni pressed a button with gold lettering that said penthouse and they both stood in silence as the metal box carried them higher until it slid smoothly to a stop and the doors opened to reveal an entrance hall with a marble tiled floor and expensive looking furniture.
"what's going on Ronni?" Hiro asked as they walked through the hall into an open plan penthouse apartment,
"nothing, I've brought you for coffee so we can catch up just as I said" he replied.
