Hiro was eternally grateful that Siwan was beside him right now giving him the support that he needed to get through this godforsaken dinner, it's not that he needed to be stuck to Ronni's side like glue but both he and his mother had put him in a very awkward position back there.
Maybe Ronni's mother thought that she was being diplomatic but if Hiro was being honest she should have told the girl no, instead she had said that the decision was his but how could he say no with out looking like a complete jerk?
Ronni hadn't said anything either but then he had looked shocked when he had said yes, what the hell was he supposed to say? Consequently he had to sit and watch that girl blatantly hitting on the person who to all intents and purposes was supposed to be his fiancé.
He wasn't sure who to blame? Ronni's mother, Ronni himself or that stupid girl who was hanging on Ronni's arm as if she was afraid to let him go.
He had noticed one or two pitying glances from the staff from time to time and to be fair he had seen Ronni trying to pry the girls fingers off his arm but then she would just grab him somewhere different or lay her head on his shoulder.
The soup course had been and gone and a shrimp salad had been next and now they were being served a beef dish and even though everything had been presented beautifully it all tasted like sawdust to Hiro.
He needn't have worried about the etiquette of fine dining because Siwan kept whispering to him and putting him straight but to be fair no one was looking in their direction anyway, all the action was at the other end of the table.
His cell phone suddenly beeped and he looked down to see a message from Ronni,
[Hiro, get me the fuck out of this?]
Hiro looked up and across at Ronni who was staring him down and he didn't look happy.
[what do you expect me to do? I'm not the hostess and you got yourself in that situation' why didn't you say anything? oh yeah ... because it was easier for you and your mother to make me the bad guy so you deal with]
Hiro looked up again after sending his message to see Ronni looking down to read it then he looked up and Hiro returned his gaze with a shrug before turning to Siwan as he said something and a few minutes later, another message arrived.
[what do you mean, make you the bad guy?]
[come on Ronni' if I had said no I would have been the bad guy, the one who wouldn't change seats for your friend so I was screwed whatever I said and I reiterate why the fuck didn't you say anything and if you carry on blaming me for this I'm quitting]
[how can you say that Hiro? you know how important this deal is for KamYāng]
[yes I do know but I also know that I am not to blame for your current predicament, blame the hostess or yourself, either one works]
Hiro watched as Ronni read his last message and when his phone beeped a couple of minutes later he ignored it and also the glares he was receiving from the other end of the table, instead he focused on getting through the meal and Siwan's silly jokes as he tried to cheer him up.
