I was humming softly looking at my reflection in the mirror as I curled the ends of my honey-blonde shoulder-length hair. Every so often I caught myself smiling and blushing as my thoughts would center around Eryx. I do not what it is about him, but I was apprehensive about him at our initial meeting at the mayor's soiree, but now I am excited to see where our friendship can lead up to.
Although I was a bit disappointed that our date was canceled, I could not be mad at the fact that Eryx took his role as a big brother seriously.
Seeing the two little boys and the grief and sadness that covered their ginger-colored eyes, struck a nerve within me. I knew in that moment I could just sit still and allow the situation to continue to wreak havoc on everyone's emotions.
I always had a love for children and knew that talking to Kaemon and Zyron would influence the boys to realize although their circumstances might be challenging at the moment, their mother would always be a part of their lives.
After things had settled down, Eryx became a little standoffish toward me. He kept making me these intense stares across the room but I was unsure what he was thinking at the time.
I stayed at the Vallea Estate maybe for an hour and then Eryx took me home. He helped me out of his vehicle one hand placed at the center of my spine while the other held my hand.
We walked to the front door and stopped at looked down at me as if he wanted to say something. He fights with himself for a bit, rather than sharing his thoughts with me he just sighed and kissed me on the cheek and told me goodnight.
I watched him pull off the side of the curb from my view of him from the blinds in the den before unwinding for the night.
That happened about a week ago. Just as finished curling my hair and my fingers comb through strands to loosen up the curls, my phone suddenly rang. I glance down at the counter and see Eryx's name across the center of my phone. I
smiled because I was getting a bit worried being that we hadn't seen each other in person in a week. "Hey you", I speak into the phone. I was truly happy to talk with Eryx. He was a great listener and I enjoyed the intimate conversations we would have.
"What are you doing, Cherie", I blush at the nickname Eryx has been calling me since I first day of meeting each other.
"I am about to head out to volunteer at Alphacrest Children's Cancer Center".
Out of nowhere, I hear screaming on Eryx's end of the call. It takes me by surprise and I gasp loudly and place my hand over my racing heart.
"What the hell is that I ask". Eryx doesn't speak for a few moments which intensifies my concern about what is going on. He finally answers several moments later.
"Sorry about that I am watching a horror film. I forgot to turn down the volume".
I wanted to ask more about the film Eryx was watching but he decided to center my attention to something else. "Turn on Facetime so I can see your pretty face", Eryx asks before I quickly touch the Facetime option on my phone.
Seconds later, I see Eryx but cannot make out where he is all I can tell is that he is in a dimly lit room. He then licks his lips as I show him my outfit that I am wearing which is a University of Alphacrest cropped top that shows off my flat stomach a pair of dark denim bagged jeans and my favorite of red and white Nike Dunks.
"You look beautiful Cherie. I might need to come join you up at the hospital". I wave him off, "No need I know you are a busy man".
I wasn't aware of all of the businesses Eryx or his family owns, I just knew from some of the conversations that most of the local corporate businesses were owned by the Valleas.
"I make time for what is important to me. I want to swing by to come see you at the hospital later on".
I grin as my cheeks turn red, smiling at the fact that Eryx is willing to make time to come see me today. "That sounds good. Text or call me when you make it to the hospital. I gotta go because I am about to be late if I don't leave soon", I say before ending the call.
Eryx's perspective
I end the phone call with Verena and immediately shift my attention to the pathetic piece of shit lying in front of me who tried to bail out of paying me some money he owed me. My foot makes contact with the man's ribs. I hear a crack as the man groans in pain, holding the side of his abdomen.
"Please, don't kill me I told you I would get your money". I only gave this punk bitch 24 hours to give me $10,000 but rather than pay up I found out he spent the money he owed me by gambling at the local casino.
I immediately put out an alert to my men to find him and bring him to me at one of the warehouses located on the edge of town, not too far away from the Vallea estate. An hour passed and my men bring the scumbag to me.
I smiled inwardly as I took in the damage my men had caused. The man was unrecognizable, his face was swollen, blood was seeping from his mouth, and his nose looked as though it was broken.
My men leave the room and shut the door as the man begins to plead for his life. I walk over to a row of weapons marveling at the beauty of many of swords, guns, knives, etc. I had a thing for collecting weapons and had about everything you can imagine. I placed my hand on one of my favorites, which happened to be my machete.
I walk back over to the man who lies in a fetal position on the floor. He takes notice of what is in my hands and begins to shiver and even pees on himself. "You interrupted my call with my future wife", I say before I take hold of his right hand and chop it clean off with the machete as blood squirts everywhere in all directions.
I kneel in front of him as he tries to stop the bleeding with his other but it is no use.
"You will die in a matter of minutes. I hope you drew up a will for your family because if you didn't whatever you got no belongs to me".
I watch as the man struggles with fighting death for several minutes before he takes his last breath. This was the version of myself I planned to keep hidden away from Verena as long as I could.
Verena did not need to see the darkness that plagued my life on a day-to-day basis. Since being in her vicinity I could see the balance she was bringing into my life.
I couldn't jeopardize scaring her off by telling her that I was not just a wealthy man... but the head of the Vallea mafia.
