1st Person
Hitoshi watches me as I take my turn to cook dinner when my phone goes off with a text notification. It's probably Hawks wanting my weekly status update. Like I don't see him a few days a week anyway.
"Toshi, will you check my phone for me please?"
"Sure, where is it?"
"My back pocket. Right side."
I stay still while Hitoshi takes my phone out of my pocket. He picks up the phone, holding it up so I can see the lock screen. The picture of my precious Bandit always makes me smile.
"Can you enter the passcode?"
"My hands are a little full at the moment. You can enter it yourself."
"Okay."
"0701."
My boyfriend freezes as he starts to type my passcode. "Is that my birthday?"
I grin, feigning innocence. "I don't know, Toshi, is it?"
I can't help myself from giggling at his slightly flustered expression. He never told me when his birthday was, so I had to ask one of his classmates. It's too bad he didn't tell me when his birthday was, because it has already passed for the year and I feel bad that we didn't do anything that day. "Did you forget when your own birthday is? Because I remember it~"
He clears his throat, pretending to be unbothered by my attention to detail. He unlocks my phone to find that my wallpaper is a picture of himself and Denki cuddled up in my bed, both fast asleep.
"When did you take this picture?"
I giggle, remembering every night we have spent together in my room. Those are definitely my favorite date nights. Not the solo dates, but the group dates. Not to mention the especially wild nights that the three of us spend together.
"Uhm, it's been awhile. I guess that was a few months ago."
I finish what I'm doing and calmly watch my boyfriend go through my phone. I have nothing to hide so I have nothing to be worried about, and he is more than welcome to go through everything on my phone.
"It's Hawks. He says he wants you to go in a little earlier tomorrow because he has something important to discuss with you."
"Hm? I wonder what he wants."The next day, I come home from work and flop onto Denki's lap, burying my face in his legs.
"What happened, little Spark?"
I scream into his lap, the sound barely muffled as I kick my feet a few times out of frustration.
"Hawks has teamed her up with Monoma for a special mission," I hear Tokoyami explain. "I understand your feelings about the boy, but you must remain professional, Mizumi. This is a very important mission, and it will not go well if you do not learn to cooperate with other heroes."
I lift my head as I catch my breath. "I cooperate just fine. It's HIM that needs to behave himself and learn to cooperate."
"Alright, settle down, little Spark. I have an idea. Why don't you go put on your favorite pajamas and come downstairs for a movie night with the squad?"
I squeal happily as I get up. I quickly change out of my hero costume and into a comfy shark onesie that I wear around the dorm all the time.
"Nice onesie. Does it come in men's?" Monoma's voice catches me off guard as I step out of the elevator. I look over to find the bane of my existence waiting for me.
I keep my nose in the air as I walk right past him and take my place on the couch next to my boyfriend. "I think you come in men enough for all of us." I grin proudly as my friends howl with laughter.
"What is that supposed to mean?" Monoma's eye twitches as I insult him right back.
"It means I've seen less fruit at a farmer's market."
My friends laugh even harder as Denki pulls me backwards into his lap with his hand over my mouth before I can keep going with the inappropriate insults.
"Cool it, little Spark." Denki scolds me before he looks back up at Monoma. "What did you want?"
"Just to let Siren know that if she messes up this mission, there's no way she'll ever be a real hero. I'm looking forward to having the loser train me over the next few days."
I barely notice Kendo as she sneaks up behind her classmate, smacking the back of his head to turn him off. "Sorry about him. You know how he gets when he goes unsupervised. Don't worry, I'll make sure he's on his best behavior for training tomorrow."
I giggle along with my friends as we watch her drag his half-conscious body out of our building and back home. We turn our attention back to the movie Bakugo picked out for the whole squad to watch, but my good mood doesn't last for long as I'm distracted by the dread of what is to come. I am so not looking forward to having to train Monoma tomorrow.Hitoshi and Denki have specifically asked me to be nice to Monoma, but if I have to spend my free time over the next few days teaching him how to use my Quirk, I'm going to get a little revenge for all of his teasing. After he touches my hand, I know he has copied my Quirk.
"You know what the hardest part of being a mermaid is? Manifesting a tail every time you get wet." I push him into the water, forcing him to transform.
There's a slight flash of light underwater, then I see his head pop up as he comes up for air. He glares up at me as he spits out the water in his mouth. "You little villain..."
"It sucks to be on the receiving end of the teasing, doesn't it? You better learn how to use that tail quick, or else you are shark bait."
I take a running start, then jump into the water, purposely landing close enough to Monoma that he gets splashed. As I transform, I notice Monoma's tail doesn't look quite like mine. Where my tail is a beautiful blend of blue and purple, his is a smoky mix of blue and sliver. I force myself not to stare at it too long. He may be a pretty boy, even more so with a mermaid tail, but I know his personality. There is no way I will ever be friends with Neito Monoma.
