There it was.
A dark, grey-blue dragon, with the same piercing gold eyes that Toothless had apparently seen staring back at him through the fog. She was only slightly smaller than him, though, she made up for it in intimidation factor. Her feathery mane around her neck twitched as Toothless cautiously stepped towards the mysterious dragon sniffing in her direction. She was much more decorated than toothless, with a light underbelly and long and thick, delicate whiskers that flicked with each movement she made. Their build was so similar, yet there was no way she was a Night Fury, or at least any type of pure Night Fury.
"Another fury...?" Hiccup couldn't help but mutter under his breath.
As Toothless stepped forwards, she stepped back, and though she was extremely on edge, the curiosity seemed mutual. As she turned to carefully circle him, Hiccup shifted, just enough to try and get a better look. Unfortunately for him, the brush around him wasn't on his side, and the rustling caused both of the dragons to perk up, one clearly much more unhappy than the other.
The mysterious fury let out a low rumble, the odd layered mane around her neck twitching and puffing as she scanned the area. For a second, Hiccup stayed hidden, back pressed firmly to the tree that shielded him from sight, but he couldn't help but peek after a second.
Her feathery mane had fully risen, puffing up like some type of odd frills as small, glowing, threads of electricity pulsed and flickered through it. Her long whiskers flowed like a heavy gust was hitting her, though he couldn't feel any wind.
Toothless cooed slightly, slowly sweeping his tail over the tall ferns and foliage they were wading through as he stepped closer.
Though it took a moment, her mane lowered slightly, the electricity dissipating with it. She lowered her ears, her pupils growing larger as she hesitantly went back to sniffing at him.
Hiccup let out a deep sigh of relief, peeking out again, much more careful than before. The two dark dragons returned to circling each other, Toothless cautiously nuzzling at the long tendrils that twitched along her cheeks. The fury let out a curious hum, cooing quietly as she flicked her tail. Hiccup couldn't help but take note of the extra sets of wing-like fins along her tail. The scales along her darker markings glittered slightly when the light hit it as she moved, resembling stars in the night sky, though he wasn't entirely sure if that was the sheen of her scales or lingering dew speckling her.
The mystical moment was cut short, though, as a low call of a horn rang out through the forest. The low tone rattled in Hiccup's ribs as the female fury perked up fully, lifting her head with a trill. Toothless looked just as confused as Hiccup felt, and rightfully so. What the hell was going on?
"Cloudburst! " A low voice called, only slightly less jarring than the horn was. Whoever had
And that was that. The fury roared, lashing her tail and bolting away, taking off without an ounce of hesitation.
Toothless raced after her, but it was too late, she had already vanished into the foggy forest. Finally Hiccup could emerge, sliding down the slick green hill and into the clearing, " 'Cloudburst'-? Is that it's name? ...It has a rider?" He furrowed his brow, staring into the distance as he approached Toothless, setting a hand on his saddle. He let out a low whine, and Hiccup nodded.
"We'll find that dragon again, don't worry, bud. For now, let's get back to Berk. We have to tell the others about this, then we can track them down. ...And hopefully figure out what type of dragon that was."
Toothless nodded, as Hiccup promptly pulled himself up onto the saddle, locking his foot into the pedal. "Let's go!"
