As I was talking with Sara, someone called my name. Fear and excitement were both evident on my face.
"I have to leave now; see you later," I told her, rubbing the back of my neck. "You'll be fine; don't stress," she said gently, patting my shoulder.
Sara, along with some other townsfolk and a few men for security, came to the entrance to bid us farewell. I set off with Muffin and the other clan members, following Draker who led the way.
We walked in silence, Muffin perched on my shoulder. "Muffin, we'll give it our best," I said excitedly. Muffin responded with a soft growl.
The sun was at its highest point, indicating it was afternoon. I was looking at Muffin when Draker spoke up, "No worries, we'll win; we'll give it our all."
I looked up to see Draker raising his right arm, holding a gleaming sword and pointing it skyward. "YES, BOSS, WE CAN DO IT!" all the men shouted in unison.
We reached the cave and set up camp nearby, preparing ourselves for the battle ahead. We split into three groups, with Draker and I in the third group.
Despite my fear, I kept my feelings hidden, knowing that if I showed weakness, Muffin would also become scared.
The first troop entered the cave, and exactly thirty-five minutes later, they returned, injured, exhausted, and covered in ash, as if they had been through a firestorm. We rushed to help them, supporting them by their shoulders and guiding them to rest.
One man was in relatively better condition than the others. He seemed to be the only one capable of speaking, though he was still in considerable pain.
Draker asked about the situation inside, and the man replied, trembling, "Bo...ss...ss, he...ee i...s v...vver...yyy poowe...rful, it...s n...eearlyy im...pos...s...ible to... de...fe...a...t him."
At first, I didn't understand his words, but the look in Draker's eyes—deep red with anger and concern—told me everything I needed to know.
The second troop returned in the same condition: defeated, tired, and injured. Now it was our turn to show our strength.
As we entered the cave, Draker instructed me to stay close to him and keep my distance from the demon.
As David and Draker entered the cave, the air grew colder, and an oppressive darkness seemed to swallow the light from their torches. In the center of the cavern stood the demon lord, a towering figure cloaked in shadows.
The demon lord's skin was a deep, obsidian black, with veins of crimson light pulsing beneath the surface, giving him an eerie, otherworldly glow.
His eyes burned like twin suns, radiating malice and ancient power. Jagged horns curved menacingly from his forehead, and his mouth was filled with razor-sharp teeth, each one glistening with a dark, viscous substance.
His muscular frame was adorned with ancient, rune-inscribed armor that seemed to absorb the light around it. Massive, bat-like wings extended from his back, their membranes tattered and torn, yet capable of lifting his formidable bulk.
Clawed hands, each finger tipped with talons as long as daggers, flexed in anticipation of the coming battle.
The demon lord's presence was suffocating, a palpable aura of dread that made the bravest warriors falter. His voice, when he spoke, was a deep, resonant growl that echoed through the cavern, sending shivers down the spines of all who heard it.
I stood at the edge of the cavern, my heart pounding in my chest as I watched Draker step forward to confront the demon lord. The air was thick with tension, and the oppressive darkness seemed to press in on all sides. Muffin growled softly beside me, sensing the danger.
Draker's voice echoed through the cavern. "Demon lord, your reign of terror ends here!" He drew his sword, its blade gleaming in the dim light.
The demon lord let out a guttural laugh, his eyes burning with malevolent glee. "Foolish mortal, you dare challenge me?" His voice was a deep, resonant growl that sent shivers down my spine.
Draker charged, his movements swift and precise. Their blades clashed with a deafening clang, sparks flying as metal met metal. The demon lord's strength was overwhelming, each strike sending shockwaves through the ground. Draker fought valiantly, his skill evident in every move, but the demon lord was relentless.
I watched in horror as Draker was slowly pushed back, his defenses weakening. The demon lord's claws raked across Draker's armor, leaving deep gashes. Blood stained the ground, and Draker's breaths grew labored.
"Stay back, David!" Draker shouted, his voice strained. "This is my fight!"
But I couldn't just stand there and watch him die. My grip tightened on the hilt of my sword, and I glanced at Muffin. "We have to help him," I whispered.
Muffin's eyes met mine, and he nodded, his form shifting into a more formidable shape. With a deep breath, I stepped forward, my heart pounding in my ears.
The demon lord's attention snapped to me as I approached. "Ah, the guest decides to join the fray," he sneered. "Very well, come and meet your end."
I charged, my sword raised high. Muffin leaped beside me, his claws glowing with a fierce light. The demon lord swung his massive blade at me, but I ducked and rolled, narrowly avoiding the deadly strike. Muffin lunged at the demon's legs, his teeth sinking into the dark flesh.
The demon lord roared in pain and fury, his attention divided between us. I took the opportunity to strike, my sword slicing through the air and connecting with his side. The demon's blood sprayed, black and viscous, but he barely seemed to notice.
With a snarl, the demon lord backhanded me, sending me crashing into the cavern wall. Pain exploded through my body, but I forced myself to stand. Draker was on his knees, struggling to rise, and I knew we couldn't give up now.
"Muffin, now!" I shouted.
Muffin's eyes blazed with determination as he launched himself at the demon lord's throat. The demon staggered, his movements slowing. I seized the moment, charging forward with all my strength. My sword pierced the demon's chest, and with a final, agonized roar, he fell to the ground, lifeless.
Breathing heavily, I pulled my sword free and stumbled back. The cavern was silent, save for the sound of our ragged breaths. Draker managed to stand, his eyes filled with gratitude and respect.
"You did it, David," he said, his voice weak but proud. "You saved us all."
But as I looked down at the demon lord's body, a sense of unease washed over me. The black curse sword had vanished, but I could still feel its dark presence within me. Our victory had come at a great cost, and I knew our journey was far from over.
