Shaine lay sprawled on her bed, staring at her phone as she contemplated her next move. Maxine and Sage's teasing about inviting Gabrielle to the semestral opening event had echoed in her head all the way back to her condo. Now, with the cool evening breeze drifting through her window, she gathered her courage.
Just do it, she thought to herself, her fingers hovering over the keyboard. 'It's casual. No pressure.'
Finally, with a quick breath, she typed out the message and hit send. Now all she could do was wait, hoping Gabrielle wouldn't find the invitation too forward.
Wonnie: Gabbiee how are you?
Moments later, her phone buzzed.
Gabrielle: hey.
Gabrielle: im fine, hbu?
Shaine grinned at the sight of Gabrielle's response. She could almost hear Maxine's voice in her head, teasing her for being so excited over a message. Sige na nga, Max, she thought, unable to stop herself from smiling.
Shaine's heart fluttered as she read his reply, her fingers typing before she could even think.
Wonnie: Ayos lang din!
Wonnie: Gabbieeeeee
Wonnie: Matanong lang, are you free this friday?
She hit send, biting her lip nervously. This was it-the moment where she'd invite him. Her stomach flipped with anticipation.
Gabrielle: why?
"Here we go."
Shaine exhaled and typed quickly before she could second-guess herself again.
Wonnie: Ahh kasi ano eh hehehe
Wonnie: May event kami this friday afternoon sa uni, I would like to invite you sana kung pwede? No pressure, just thought it'd be fun to meet up if you're free!
She hit send and immediately hugged her pillow, feeling a mix of nerves and excitement.
A few minutes passed, and finally, Gabrielle's response came.
Gabrielle: ah ganun ba.
