I woke up at seven o'clock in the morning to the buzzing of my phone. I thought it was a dream, but I looked at my phone and it was an unknown number calling me. I ignored it and let it go to voicemail. Then I realized that my mom was gone and it could have been her since she never knew where her phone was. I listened to the voicemail and it was a doctor by the name of Chad Burns. He said he received my application for the internship this fall. I immediately called him back, I had to know what it was all about.

"Hello?" A man's voice said.

"Hi is this Chad Burns?" I asked.

"Yes, it is, is this Mariah McKinney?" He seemed so happy.

"Uh, actually it is. I just got a call from this number and..."

"I know who you are. So hey listen Mariah you are one of our candidates for the internship this fall. My colleague and I will be interviewing the candidates over the next few weeks. Would you be willing to come meet him and me, and answer a few questions say this Thursday at about noon?" He seemed a little too happy. I wondered if this was a prank. Then again, what did I have to lose?

"Yes, I can be there," I said still half asleep.

"Great, I'll email you the details of the interview and the location, I'll see you Thursday sweetheart!" He was gay, he had to be! As soon as I hung up the phone with Chad, I immediately called Haley. The time was now 7:20. The line was ringing. I waited with anticipated excitement.

Haley picked up the phone, but she didn't say anything. "Haley?" I asked nervously.

"What! Why are you calling me before the sun is even up?!" Her tone was pissed, but I didn't care.

"I have something exciting to tell you!" I said, hoping she'd see my happiness through the phone.

"You're pregnant?" She asked. "Congratulations, I'll be sure to like your statuses and retweet your tweets for as long as that kid lives, now go away." She hung up the phone and I let out a huge sigh. I just wanted someone to be excited with me.

"I don't understand your friendship with Haley," Mac said, holding her coffee mug sipping it like she had no teeth.

"Mac! What are you doing up?" I said in an unusual high voice.

"I couldn't sleep," she said, walking over to my bed. "Move over." I scooted over and let Mac have the left side of the bed.

"Mariah, we go back to school in less than a month, this summer has been so short. Are you ready to go back?" She asked. School. Am I ready? Of course I wasn't ready. School meant starting over, making new friends, and getting better grades than Wesley. Even though he was graduated, I had this deep motivation to beat all of his records.

"What?" I asked my sister.

Mac rolled on her side so she could see my face. "What are you thinking of?" She asked.

"Mac I've gone four months without hanging out with Wesley. I've tried new things. I've discovered what I want to do with my life, and I am completely terrified!" Mac brushed the hair out of my face and gave me that deep sympathetic look.

"Welcome to life babe. I think you should write down your goals for this year, oh and I want to help! Let's do it right now! Let me go get some paper," Mac said enthusiastically. Mac got out of bed and looked through my desk for some paper. I wasn't paying attention until things in the room got quiet. I saw Mac looking at a piece of paper that was folded up nicely. It was Tyler's letter.

"Mac stop!" I said getting caught in the covers.

"What is this?" Her facial expression looked disgusted with me.
